I find dextromethorphan helps with depression as well. Have come off antidepressants due to me not liking their effects.
It also helps me with with antidepressant withdrawal symptoms. Yes, I did the bone headed cold turkey thing but I've done it before. Do not recommend quitting cold turkey. Dextromethorphan does help me with the brain zaps and mood swings. Of course, I must repeat what you said, just in case, but dextrompethorphan and SSRIs must not be taken together.
I am using it more often for the moment while I deal with the withdrawals, but it's great to see that two doses have stuck with you. Maybe once I'm over this hill I'll be good, we shall see!
I'm no researcher but have battled with depression for many years. And of course this is just my body and my personal experience, I can't speak to safety for others.
Wow, that's wild! I am shocked to hear someone else has treated their depression the same way. I hope the side effects and those stupid brain zaps go away soon. I hope this drug AXS-05 becomes mainstream very quickly, very fast. It is going to be a blockbuster.

Love seeing multipurpose drugs, esp. OTC ones like dextromethorphan that you can try out (in safe doses) to see if it is helpful.

No I did not, but I already knew what to expect. It actually completely removed a terrible, terrible benzodiazepene withdrawal syndrome I was experiencing which induced more anxiety than anything in my entire life. Dosing on dextromethorphan had eliminated a crippling BWS I had experienced. It wasn't until about a month afterwards that I realized I had no withdrawal symptoms, period, when previously withdrawal had caused the worst anxiety of my life, the same as when my panic disorder was at its worst during a nervous breakdown. Researchers are also investigating the role of glutamate in benzodiazepene withdrawal. :)
In my anecdotal experience, AXS-05 is a proprietary formula which can somewhat easily be replicated. I have managed to cure my severe treatment resistant depression with only two doses of dextromethorphan. I stumbled upon this in Nov with my own research as it's still coming out, and have been off of antidepressants since then.... BEWARE drug interactions with SSRI's which will lead to serotonin syndrome.
I am not suggesting anyone try this, however I am saying.... I have cured my depression through my own self management and have actually told a couple doctors about this and they have all been extremely pleasantly surprised. It's too bad I didn't discover it sooner, because if I did and invested in the stocks I would be very wealthy.
So you tried taking your own combo of these drugs or just the cough suppressant?
I tried once with bupropion, and then again without. At one point, I was able to find a source that documented the exact dose of DXM vs bupropion but have since lost that source. I slightly adjusted this based on my personal comfort. To me, this suggests this drug is proprietary solely for this reason - I had immediate relief of suicidal thoughts and major depression.... only with two doses. Using bupropion in the combo seems to make it a more legitimate reason to take it every day.
