Outer Space2024 Solar Eclipse
Posted April 8, 2024 by sylviasmushrooms in STEM

It’s today, and I’m not quite in the path of totality but my location will allow me and my family to view it at 97%. I know people who are traveling to witness this event, and have read that 50% of people who view a total solar eclipse for the first time cry, they find the experience so moving and powerful.

Are you viewing it today? What are you looking forward to the most? I’ve heard that animals change their behaviors and I’m hoping I can experience this, though I doubt our tarantula will notice lol.

Since the fullest totality we will see in our location occurs when my kids are in school, the school is distributing glasses and trotting everyone outside around peak. I’m a little nervous about my kindergartner not heeding the rules to keep the dang glasses on, but apparently the school has an “opt out” option for parents who don’t want their kids to view it. This is so weird to me. Who would opt their kids out of an experience you only have a handful of times in your life? And deprive a few staff members who have to supervise them during their “alternate indoor activity” of that experience? People who don’t believe in the sun? I’m confused as it seems very anti-science.

Anyway, please share plans and experiences if you’re lucky enough to be in or near the path of totality!
