Whoever develops a device that interferes with drones or jams their signal will make a lot money. They’re so annoying.
Might not be possible. I think in the US they're under the same category as aircraft. You can't interfere with them at all, even lasers will land you a hefty fine. You're supposed to just call the authorities, who will do probably nothing.
It's a shame because drones are cool, but a lot of people are assholes and do not respect others' privacy at all with them.
Some of the most beautiful wildlife footage I've ever seen must have been shot by drone, so I completely agree. I want sound engineers to make them silent but then they can spy too easily so double edged sword
I wanted to share this article because drones are wildly annoying to me - I participate in an outdoor sport that attracts the attention of recreational drone filers not infrequently and I always cease my activity because it's too distracting. To drive the point home I cover my ears and stare at the camera until they leave. I refuse to be filmed while also having my enjoyment of the outdoor space detracted from.
I cannot imagine having sound be your main sensory experience and dealing with that kind of assault on the ears. It's the sound of the most annoying, largest mechanical bug you can imagine and the urge to swat it away must be even more overwhelming to them than it is to me. It seems cruel and I look forward to increased regulation on recreational drone flying especially as it concerns wildlife.
Hate the drones (one was sent to check me out while sunbathing on a beach, ugh), went to an astronomy lecture recently and was horrified by a picture showing the Earth covered in satellites -- it looked like the Covid virus! I see all of this spying through mechanical devices as an extension of the male entitlement that they get to do and have access to whatever they want, with zero concern for how it affects anyone or anything else. Same for those massive radio collars scientists have been putting on cougars and jaguars. Just wrong.
A friend I was visiting had one of those. The local seagulls were having none of it and attacked it until it crashed. Smart birds. I just laughed. He was quite irritated.
O awesome! I've also seen footage of eagles destroying them. Go birds!!
Gahahah the eagles 🦅 don’t want those those drones thinking they can identify into birdhood! 😆
LOL!
This happened on a NYC beach where drones were watching for sharks and drowning swimmers. The birds thought the drones were predators coming after their eggs.

They really do sound like extremely loud, sinister mosquitos. I'm not even sensitive to that kind of noise but they make me feel nervous.
It must be terrible for sea creatures that use sonar, their experience of sound is already beyond what we can imagine.
