The earthquake stuff could make sense, since this is a deep sea fish and and a seaquake could force it to go higher up.

But since the deep sea is heating up pretty fast, I hope it wasn't some environmental issue.

Very cool, but the fact that they can grow to be 26 ft is pure nightmare fuel. Even the picture of the 12ft one in the article is just...nope.

I think the giant sunfish are the same way to me. I know they are harmless, despite their massive size... They just look like gigantic floating death pancakes.

Several years ago Mumsnet had a thread for people to post photos of the world's scariest/most revolting animals. Harpy eagles, Surinam toads, mole-rats... you get the picture. This thing should have made the list. I know deep-water creatures tend to be larger, but 26'? At least it seems to swim about as well as a cow would, so that's some comfort.

Thanks for sharing!

I’m so fascinated by deep-sea creatures; they look like literal monsters and I just think that’s so cool

Does this mean a big earthquake is coming?

In California there's always a big earthquake coming... .

I read about this the other day and just thought, "Hmm, sounds right."
