Very cool, but the fact that they can grow to be 26 ft is pure nightmare fuel. Even the picture of the 12ft one in the article is just...nope.
I think the giant sunfish are the same way to me. I know they are harmless, despite their massive size... They just look like gigantic floating death pancakes.
Several years ago Mumsnet had a thread for people to post photos of the world's scariest/most revolting animals. Harpy eagles, Surinam toads, mole-rats... you get the picture. This thing should have made the list. I know deep-water creatures tend to be larger, but 26'? At least it seems to swim about as well as a cow would, so that's some comfort.

Does this mean a big earthquake is coming?
The earthquake stuff could make sense, since this is a deep sea fish and and a seaquake could force it to go higher up.
But since the deep sea is heating up pretty fast, I hope it wasn't some environmental issue.
