All individuals of the species have the reproductive equipment of both sexes but only one of them is active at a time instead of both at once like in animals who are completely male and female at once all the time...
They change sex by activating the dormant equipment while the other goes to sleep...
This is possible for them because they do not have external reproductive organs like a phallus like humans do...
Their reproductive organs are all internal...
