I'm a big coder, but due to sexist stereotypes, subconsciously thought that it was just a job for 'nerdy hermit men'.
Only when I fell into coding by accident, I took to it straight away. Within months, I was teaching coding to all the men then was quickly promoted into a machine learning job.
Looking back in history, women were actually the original coders. 75% of the code-breakers* at Bletchley Park in WW2 were women.
Are there other ways you feel unconscious gender bias has affected your career/life choices?
*I know cryptanalysts are slightly different to coders, but they're the earliest computer scientists.
