There's a very good thread at the moment on Twitter about TIMs in cycling, from @I_heart_bikes:

There are so many of them. What is about cycling that attracts them? Or is it just that cycling has drunk the Trans-Aid and won't ban them?

My guess is its the Leg Muscles ( Quads and Hamstrings and Glutes ) are the biggest muscle groups in the body. So if they have trained them correctly before transitioning, they could get huge and really powerful. So on T blockers, even after mass reduction in those muscles, they would be more powerful than their female counterparts.

So what's emerging is that it's partly a matter of physical advantages and partly a social network of men who encourage each other to "transition", in some sense of the word, in order to pick up easy prize money, and prestige in the eyes of people who don't think what they're doing is cheating.

I’m not very familiar with the cycling world so I’m not sure how tight it is or how much influence certain people/organizations have . But I did find it interesting in another article on the front page right now that “Seplavy, who is deputy editor of Bicycling Magazine” is a TiM who just won a race in the US. He seemed to have transitioned some time ago. If they’re all very connected and part of a good ole boy sort of club, maybe it came from the elites down?

Bingo and full house

Also, let’s not discount that male cycling has an ingrained culture of cheating.

Rhys McKinnon, or (vomit) "Veronica Ivy" was one of the first, wasn't he? A good few years ago now. So, he would've inspired copycats, I'd imagine.

Bicycles are particularly suited to enhance the mechanical motion of a man's movements. Like, I could see some other sports where the difference between a transgender woman and an actual woman wouldn't be as stark but difference in performance in cycling is particularly stark. So I'm guessing the draw is that it's really super easy for a trans woman to drop in as a novice and start competing against women at a pro level.

'It's easier to cheat.' Oh how nice.

This thread is a perfect showcase against anyone whoever says yOu WoN't EvEn KnOw who's a TIM irl. With them wearing spandex standing side-by-side with actual women, and without the heavy-handed makeup and filters.

I saw this today on Twitter. It's a disgusting hit piece article describing Inga Thompson as "anti transgender inclusion". Because she can't be a women's cycling advocate or be fighting for women's rights, according to this publication. It seems in cycling anything but absolute fealty to the trans cult ends in women getting pushed out. Honestly, is the end game just to have mens cycling and weaker mens' cycling? Because that is what will happen.

On an anecdotal note, my ex husband was big into cycling and racing. He was a complete asshole and misogynist. A lot of his fellow riders seemed to be the same.

I don’t know why cycling attracts so many of these useless TIMs, but I guarantee the day one of them stands atop the podium at one of the women’s Grand Tours (the Tour de France, the Tour of Spain and the Giro d’Italia), the whole world will peak.

Don't count on it.

All 3 winners on the podium of the 2016 Olympic Women's 800m race were male.

The media gaslighted everyone and just kept calling them women, and not many people I know even knew this happened because they don't pay that much attention to sports they never personally played. They've since been banned from the Olympic race, but I do regularly see support for including these very same men in the women's race online by people who don't know what they are talking about or who are not arguing in good faith.

Let's not forget they're was a time men actively protested the idea of women having their own sport at all. It was very recent, and there are still plenty of men who would love to see us lose access to this.
