Very upsetting story. I watched a documentary on Agnes Tirop last night, a Kenyan Olympic runner who previously held the 10km world record who was killed by her boyfriend in 2021. The documentary explored how there are many gold-digging men "lurking about" ready to prey on talented women and as it so often goes: they beat them, take control of their finances and when they can no longer be controlled they kill them. It's so rage-inducing. What kills me about Tirop's case is that he is using HER money for his lawyers/defence instead of that money being given to her family. I can't find any new information about a trial but he seems to have been given bail and is walking free. No justice.
Half of all women report being beaten? Kenya is a country that needs 4B.
Hell hath no fury like a bruised male ego.
I'd love for these women to safely seek asylum then compete for countries that are worthy of their efforts, but easier said than done.
Holy shit, that's horrific. These poor women. Couldn't help but notice they call this "gender based violence" 🙄. It's male violence against women. I mean, this is a pretty goddamn clear example of that.
I feel such rage reading stories like this.
And yet I can't imagine actually setting that man on fire. If I try to picture myself doing something that horrific, I know I wouldn't go through with it.
I must not be capable of hating men as much as they hate us. They give me so many tangible reasons, they set women on fire for fuck's sake, and I still can't stomach the idea of personally inflicting the kind of torture that they use against women on a regular basis.
I hear what you’re saying but for me, the willingness (or unwillingness) to commit violence is not about who hates who the most. I have zero desire to personally inflict torture on anyone, which is why I would never do it. How strong my hatred for someone is doesn’t factor into it.
Women here were rightly cheering when someone shared that article about a woman setting her daughter’s rapist on fire a couple of weeks ago. I don’t think it’s lack of hatred of men that keeps us from committing horrific acts, women in general are just a lot less violent, which imo makes us more human.
