I don't know if this has been discussed here before, but I just realized that people don't tend to talk about women coaches very often in women's sports discussions. I think women's knowledge in sports is just not treated equally as men's, even if these men never played the sports themselves. Many women are coached by male coaches, and we know that sexual assault by coaches is a problem. On the other hand, I never heard of any male athlete coached by a female (but I would be happy to hear any examples).
There are several assistant coaches in the national basketball association (nba) who are women. There will probably be a woman head coach soon. If not for the growing popularity of the wnba there would probably already be a woman head coach in the NBA but the big one who was talked about being capable took a coaching job in the women's league (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becky_Hammon)
there are a lot of women who are head coaches of college women's basketball teams. I don't know the specific numbers though.
Thanks for sharing! I don't know her previously but it would definitely be inspiring for women basketball players if someone like her is able to be a head coach in the NBA.
The NFL had 15 female coaches during the last season.

This was one of the negative unintended consequences of Title IX. Once even a little bit of money starting being put into women's sports, male coaches started applying for jobs coaching women. And because of that good ol' boy network and the lack of respect for women's knowledge you mentioned...they pushed a lot of women out of coaching women's and girl's sports.
And the truly sick part, given all of the sexual assault by male coaches, is that they continue to drive out female coaches through smear campaigns that they are lesbians and will turn your daughter gay.
This is why Geno Auriemma can die in a fire.
