There's plenty of reason to criticize the show and music, but I don't really want to get into that in this post - but feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments. Anyway, the point is: I thought it was a decent pro-female, pro-girls show.
The female characters and their development was the focus. It was sympathetic to girls/women of different backgrounds and all that we do to get by in the world. It tried to show us we have more in common than not and we can choose to value each other, to be friends and stick up for each other. It also didn't trans the tomboy lesbian character (she had trouble fitting in with the girls and wanted to be a T-Bird, but there was nothing about her being a rEaL bOy oN tHe InSiDe or pronouns or whatnot).
There's even a scene where, at a little party where the girls are navigating their relationships with the boys and how it's affecting their relationships with each other, they sing a song fantasizing about a world without boys. I love how their perfectly arranged clothes transform into PJs. The Socs that the Pink Ladies were fighting with are included in the fantasy as their friends. They get to let loose together, eat big slices of cake, goof off watching a scary movie...
"Boys only keep you from your you. [...] Imagine... a world where all girls are your friends!"
So of course this show got cancelled IMMEDIATELY and was even removed from its streaming platform immediately. I guess that's not profitable enough, so these p-o-s streaming companies pull it and screw over everyone that even worked on the show so they don't have to pay royalties? I'm just so sad for everyone that worked hard on it, and sad because again, it's hard to find something so genuinely positive about girls and women. I don't think it's particularly radical, but it was absolutely better than a lot of standard libfemmy stuff.
