I love the way this article was written. Remember when men were crying because a child's cartoon rabbit wasn't sexy enough for them(grown adults)? Poor lola. Men are so pathetic
You know how the X-men aren’t wearing yellow and black spandex in the live action movies? It’s because it’ll look ridiculous and prohibit the actors from being able to, you know, act. Disregarding the gross sexualization, two pieces of leather held on by string isn’t going to translate well irl. Superhero and anime costumes don’t work very well in the real world and those cosplayers spend forever making one outfit to wear for a few hours. Movies and tv require multiple outfits that need to be worn the entire time they’re filming.
Those comments though.
And that's just animation. In the comic books, female superheroes' clothes basically look sprayed on, to the extent that they exist at all.
LMAO thanks for sharing this, I subsist on petty male tears.
I used to love Cowboy Bebop growing up, and always thought Faye's outfit was ridiculous. It even spawned the infamous "Man Faye" cosplayer from the early 2000s, which was a very hairy man dressed in Faye's ultra-revealing outfit.
This is a great change, because Faye is a badass character who deserves better than just being reduced to male fan service.
Man Faye, now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. His cosplay really highlights how ridiculous her outfit design was, like an OG Hawkeye Initiative.
LOL. I saw Man-Faye in the wild at a con back in the day. He got turned away for being under-dressed. And he threw his own fan party outside! 🤣
I'm almost envious that you had a real-life sighting of Man Faye! Truly a legend.
And, hmmm, how interesting that a man wearing that outfit is turned away, but how many naked women in Faye's outfit were likely welcomed with open arms?

Man-Faye and his fans pointed that out and claimed gender discrimination when Woman-Fayes wore the same outfit and got let in. 🤣
There's a link in the article to another link regarding Captain Marvel's Brie Larson and her response to disgruntled male pervs when her movie came out and she was wearing full coverage clothing and not a couple scraps of fabric...
As one could guess, none of this was particularly well received by the usual suspects, whom Larson responded to with a legendary series of Instagram stories featuring Photoshopped movie posters of fellow MCU superheroes Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) smiling. As you might have guessed, these posters looked ridiculous.
Link to article about Brie Larsen's IG. It's hilarious. https://www.polygon.com/2018/9/23/17892512/captain-marvel-brie-larson-smile-iron-man-doctor-strange-captain-america-poster-instagram
ETA: I forgot to say, I'm pretty shocked and pleased that Salon wrote this article AND used accurate language to describe women. They've gone full trans-train lately, so this is a nice change.
I like this change for the live action. The outfit gives her way more dignity yet the spirit of the original is still there. While they were at it I think they should have spiffed up Spike's outfit too.
In the anime there actually was supposedly a reason for dressing that way. It was to shock and throw people off so they underestimate her. It is somewhat a form of protection since she has amnesia after awaking from cryosleep and was thrust into the future where she is preyed upon for being vulnerable. She often acts more goofy and belligerent (and later sad and lost) rather than sexy when she is not scamming or bounty hunting.
I love the contemptuous tone of the article. We need more articles like this.
That plot sounds very much like the TV series Killjoys.
Men really resent films which choose not to pander to the male gaze and gloat when these films don’t do so well, all the time claiming that their real concern is ‘the film just isn’t very good’. Yeah, like Gamergate was all about ethics in journalism.
Quoted with comment:
‘Ok so before I say what is surely gonna make the author mad, let me preface this by saying I'm a trans-woman who perfers men not some "pervy man on the internet".
I was mostly with the author of the post up until the "DDDD" comment. That immediately told me she either a) never watched the original show or b) would rather misled people not familiar with it just to make a point. That annoyed me because as a fan of the original show it felt like the author only cared about her/his agenda even at the expense of things I love.
For the record, while they are disproportionate to her frame, faye's chest was not that big. Also while her outfit was a bit over sexualized and sometime the shot framing was clearly meant to draw attention to her sexually, for the most part the character was grounded and very well done.’

That's ... what cup sizes describe. The discrepancy between the size of your ribcage and the size of your chest including your breasts. These people....
Refreshing my memory by looking at stills, I would probably peg her at an F or FF with a very small band size.
For the record I watched Cowboy Bebop as a teenager and Faye's outfit and the character choices the show made to "justify" her outfit and behavior made me extremely uncomfortable. I admired a lot about that series but I never counted myself as a fan.
Thank goodness! I always felt uncomfortable with Faye’s outfit in the anime.
Do these guys not realize that the cartoon still exists? And that, if they want to see Faye in her glorified bikini, they can ignore this adaptation and watch the original instead?
The outfit in the photo looks good. Its practical while still paying homage to the anime costume.
Personally, I'm not excited because these live action adaptations tend to be shit. And it bothers me that they didn't make Spike Jewish (he seemed to be coded as Jewish in the anime). Plus, its Netflix. So they'll likely cram a bunch of qweer/trans bullshit into it. But I'll give it a shot.
Damn, do males think about anything BUT sex? They can't even watch a piece of media unless the female characters are basically naked. Imagine being ruled by your genitals your whole life. Can't relate!
Woman: (Exists without being sexualized) Man: And I took that personally
imagine having so few problems in life that you throw a hissy fit about your favorite piece of wankfodder not being sexualised enough anymore
I also like that they are all acting like it's their nature and they cannot help it. It's like they are all sex pests with no inhibition and we just have to let them go at it
