We're somewhat behind here on mainland Europe so I'm just watching season 23 episode 4 of Midsomer Murders. This show is usually about the British countryside with batshit murders.
And my oh my, this is bad.
- Apparently half of this village is into drag, the other half are handmaidens. Mind you, if you've ever seen Hot Fuzz, all these villages are like Sandford: picturesque, with parishes and saving church roofs (or get pushed from a church roof), and local festivals being the most important thing of the year. Very unlikely everybody and its mother enjoys drag.
- Felix Kai can't act for shit. Sweet Mary, it is BAD.
- There is an AFAB drag queen, proudly calling herself a cisgender woman.
- The daughter of a crossdresser, not wanting the dude showing his fetish in public, is told by said crossdresser: "This isn't about you, it is about ME!" Very telling, most likely not how the writers thought about it.
- Of course the daughter is later very proud of her crossdressing dad. Her mum apparently left her dad for another man. Crossdressing dad assures her it was not because of his crossdressing. Sure...
- Another woman is called a Karen because she doesn't like drag queens.
- weird second story about Munchausen by proxy that could have been an episode on its own.
I'm not even half in the episode and I can hardly deal with this. It's such hamfisted qUeErInG in a silly detective series about creepy countryside villages. And not liking drag is apparently bad.
Felix Kai is not only just a terrible actor in ridiculous outfits, his character is also terribly written: the typical snarky dragqueen, more woman than other women, blablabla. Of course also bothering the young DS with sexual innuendos because queers never cross boundaries, you're just a bigot!
But not all is lost. According to IMDB, I'm not the only one hating this bullshit.

It's just a clusterfuck of an episode and I fear Midsomer Murders is walking on its last legs.
