I've started watching ALF. I watched the movie once as a kid and I remember my mom saying we all hated it. So I thought I'd give it another try, this time the 1986 tv show. It's charming! I love that little puppet now (even though he's quite annoying haha.) it's a very unique plot compared to a lot of sitcoms, I know that it leaned into the 'children's show' appropriateness after season one but I still like how it's not just a children's puppet show and it's not raunchy either, a good middle (at least in season 1.)
I've been looking for shows that I can watch without being too involved (one that I can just feel good without thinking too much.)
Do you have any sitcoms you like for similar reasons? Maybe ones that you like paying attention to, there's just few sitcoms I can think about that require attention lol.
It feels like they don't want us to believe our eyes or what we see the candidates doing.
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."
I just sent back my Amnesty request for donations with "No males in women's jails" scrawled over it, and, of course, no money. I'll probably vote for the most progressive candidate in all the down ticket races, but since I'm not in swing states, I never vote for corporate dems at the top. Regardless of your actual vote, voicing your concerns about Transwoo to any dem campaign workers is good activism.
A vote for the GOP is a vote for even more regressive policies. At this point, it's the lesser of the evils. Trump and Vance are definitely evil. What the fuck do you think will happen if they get it, an if the GOP gets the whole show? Not one good thing. At this point, we just have to suck it up.
There are TIMs in women's sports, what's not accurate about that?
He had voted against a bill to strip funds for schools who did let athletes play "as the gender they identify as". That could probably be defended as far as not wanting to punish everyone at that school or in their sports.
So technically, he wasn't saying they had to be allowed to play on girls teams. Just that the school shouldn't be punished if their school allowed it.
I did tell him that I knew that, but I had been researching this issue for awhile, as well as being involved in online groups of women concerned about that. And that while ppl should have rights, voting for the equality act would mean women could not have single sex spaces & that was a risk for women. That when there was a conflict of rights women should not be always expected to give up ours.
Luckily, while I am in a swing state, my phone number is still from a 100% red state. No spam for me! Just endless YouTube ads...
Thank you! I doubt the majority of women here will do that though, when the majority of women here are voicing their opinion that they will vote for them despite the fact.
There is a contingent of women here not voting for Harris, but people freak out any time we say it, so we mostly stay quiet here but loud where we are not shouted down (IRL and X for me).
I will vote for Harris, because of Trump's attempt to overthrow the election on Jan. 6th. And I think Vance is even more extreme & restrictive about women. He has just said he doesn't think that Trump lost the 2020 election. He has also said the GOP has to "get over" fears of being authoritarian, that if Trump wins he should ignore SCOTUS rulings-(eg. it was about using an executive order to fire a large part of the civil service & replace them with Trump loyalists, which in some cases it is against the law as they have some protection from firing for political reasons) because, how is the SCOTUS going to enforce it? ; he said a few years ago that people with children under 18 should get votes for the number of kids they have & vote on the kids behalf, he thinks divorce is too easy & offhandedly cited people claiming violence as an "excuse" (& then tried to say he was misunderstood).
And Harris & Walz at least would not say as Vance basically said about SCOTUS rulings he didn't like, "make me".
However, with a Dem President, it's ok for me to have the Dems not have a majority in at least either the House or Senate. It may cause gridlock, but hopefully it would keep either side from having the numbers to push their extremist views.
I did tell the volunteer that if Harris won, I was ok with having a "firewall" in Congress of the other party to prevent the pushing of extremist gender ideology, so I was still not decided about the Senate race.
OK, I'll shoot myself in the foot here.
I'm a democrat who is now leaning independent because I've realized in the last few years that a lot of what you've said is pure propaganda. I don't like JD Vance's stance on traditional family values, and I don't like Trump, but you really have to look at some the supposed points against Trump and see that the dems have been actually doing many of these things they accuse the GOP of since they won in 2020 and when they lost in 2016.
Russiagate was fabricated by the dems to say that Trump was an illegitimate president and this went on forever in the public consciousness, and dems have contested many presidential races in the past. Russiagate and the Mueller report were sustained propaganda to discredit Trump's presidency. Has Trump done anything of the sort during Biden's term beyond exercising the same freedom to recount etc. that dems have used in the past? RE: Jan 6th-- weren't democrats literally setting fires, smashing things, and attacking police officers in DC when Trump won? And all the charges against those rioters who were arrested then were dropped.
Dems say Trump will use his powers to put his political opponents in jail, but the democrats have actually been using pretty twisted legal means to try to put him in prison or bankrupt him for years now. This is banana republic stuff. You can't go around trying to put your main political opponent in prison!
Dems have just begun saying in last few days that Trump will use the military to imprison people who don't vote for him. And yet Dems have spent YEARS now on a witch hunt to find every civilian who was at January 6th exercising their right to protest--there was even a website and they keep making arrests to this day. Nobody there has even been charged with insurrection, and neither has Trump, IIRC. Nobody died either, except an unarmed, female rioter who was shot by SS.
(Honestly, having watched the riots streamed online every night of summer 2020 that were not prosecuted or with none of this fervor even though they included massive destruction, injuries, and deaths is what made me really question the democratic party. All that during a time we were supposed to be staying in our homes, too.)
You say that Trump may disregard SCOTUS rulings, but isn't that exactly what Jack Smith is currently doing--disregarding SCOTUS's recent rulings regarding presidential immunity?
Look, I'm saying this all as a woman who could barely keep it together at work the day after Hilary lost, and cried in bed as the results came back in overnight. I went to the peaceful women's marches. But this is not the same party and I refuse to have the abortion issue hanging over my head like a carrot--the democrats have become fairly tyrannical and I still don't understand how the trans issue is the only off-issue one some Ovarit users are able to recognize with the dems. Our country needs balance, and unfortunately that means the GOP for a while.
I've come to the same conclusions. The Democratic party has turned into the Nixon Republican party, only with worse dirty tricks used on their opponents. Everything they claim that Trump would do to his opponents, they're doing or have done. Finding them despicable has not turned me into a fan of the Republicans, who are just as captured by Christian nationalism and Big Oil as the Dems are captured by Gender Ideology, Big Pharma and Big Tech. At this point, I'm even more concerned with Harris's delight in Dick Cheney's endorsement as I am in her (and especially Walz's) embrace of TRAs. WWIII would dwarf the harms of Jan 6 by a considerable margin.
Hard disagree regarding Putin’s indirect AND direct election interference (conclusions I came to without media influence).
And what occurred January 6th was a desecration of the Constitution and treason.
I really don't like seeing women on here stoop to TRA level tactics by shaming other women who dare to say they won't vote for Harris. It is disgusting tactics. And makes me want to not vote democrat even more lmao
The first time I wrote here that I won't vote for Harris due to gender identity ideology, a user who still posts/comments all the time (and picks random fights with me lol) replied with something so vile that the moderator had to delete what they wrote and all the replies. I still think about that comment sometimes, it was along the lines of a TRA threat (DM me if you'd like to know in particular what they said), and I feel like there's a good chance that person is a TIM here to try to influence people (especially around the election and political matters) and sow discord.
And makes me want to not vote democrat even more lmao
I feel this so hard. The more libs try to silence me the more it pushes me in the other direction. Have you read Riley Gaines' book, Swimming Against the Current: Fighting for Common Sense in a World That’s Lost its Mind (2024)? The amount of pressure women are under to keep sweet and obey about gender identity ideology is more than enough to radicalize me and make me ungovernable in my thoughts/opinions 😹
I feel like there's a good chance that person is a TIM here to try to influence people >
It is fucked youve had to deal with someone like that on this site. I have noticed posters that I have never seen before and tend to never post in other threads suddenly pop up to comment on and post on political threads. And they always tend to have the same way of writing, including on how we are all evil right wingers if we don't vote Harris. It's made me suspicious for a while.
And I haven't read her book, but I will now! I am planning on seeing her speak in November at my university.
Glad to know that there more women! I think you should vocalize it despite people freaking out. That’s just another form of silencing by them, how ironic.
I'm planning on voting for Harris but I'd totally act like I'm teeter tottering on that decision to give them something to think about. These people don't know me, they don't need to know my actual plans.
Exactly! I won’t be voting for her, but you get my point. We missed a huge opportunity.
It can't hurt to lie about it though.
I partially agree, but lying does hurt though because the topic is never really acknowledged and you are now playing russian roulette.
Thank you, for letting them know! When the Dems in my state contacted me I said I was unsure if I would be voting for Harris because of her inability to defend women’s sex based rights. I’ve also gotten a few others to write in and voice upset.
