DiscussionMale and female impersonation
Posted July 10, 2024 by Josi in Television

I saw a fantastic stage play last night where the female actor played all the parts, some of men, some of women. She did this with quick onstage wig, beard and costume changes.

On the way out I heard a couple discussing how it probably wouldn’t have worked as well if it was a male actor doing it. I didn’t hear their reason ing but it got me thinking.

I realised if it was a man, it would have looked a bit comical or at least distracting. I think it’s because when men dress as women they tend to look a bit grotesque or like drag performers. Thoughts?
