Synopsis

In the final days of the Edo period, a once-fearsome and respected swordsman has fallen on hard times, living as a ronin. Desperate for work, he reluctantly accepts a job: to kill a cat. This supposed demon cat is said to possess a magical charm that makes its owner completely infatuated. However, the encounter with this small creature brings unexpected changes to the ronin's life, transforming his bleak existence in vivid ways. Former swordsmanship instructor of the Kaga Domain, Kyutaro Madarame (Kazuki Kitamura), once feared as the "Madara Demon," now lives as a poor ronin in Hozuki Row House. Unskilled in any trade other than the sword, Kyutaro's life is filled with hardship. He even resorts to fishing for crawfish for dinner while eyeing a sweet snack vendor's stall longingly.

One day, Sakechi (Shingo Mizusawa), the manager of the Kaga-ya kimono shop, witnesses Kyutaro's swordsmanship. He approaches Kyutaro with a peculiar request: to assassinate a white cat named "Tamanojo," which has charmed his stern master, Yozaemon (Yosaburo Ito). According to Sakechi, ever since Yozaemon started keeping Tamanojo, he has turned from a strict businessman into a childlike figure. Believing the cat to be a demon that bewitches its owner, Sakechi asks Kyutaro to exorcise the creature.

Initially, Kyutaro finds the request absurd and hesitates. However, the offer of three ryo changes his mind. Sneaking into the Kaga-ya's cat room, Kyutaro is met not by a fearsome creature but by an innocent white cat, gazing at him with pure eyes and a gentle "meow"...
