Forgive me if this has already been discussed (I have a feeling it may have been and I just missed it?) I’d really love to hear people’s thoughts on the show! Not just the show but the fallout too...the Piers Morgan interview etc. On a bit of a manic one and this is my second post of the night.

I did enjoy the show, I almost gave up when I saw the TIM (and clocked him instantly) as I don’t like seeing TIPs on tv, with everyone playing along with their delusions and ramming gender ideology down our throats at every opportunity. I turned it off when I realised there was Ladyface in it, but I went back to it once my curiosity piqued (everybody was talking about it)

I’m glad the show didn’t cast a woman in the role of the TIM and am also glad the show, and the man himself, admitted to being bisexual - I really, really think men need to destigmatise bisexuality - it’s kinda seems to be seen as worse than being a gay man in a way, or is that just me? There’s no shame in it at all. I’m bi myself and it was nice to see it acknowledged - I didn’t think I really cared about “representation” but I thought it was handled quite well and it was nice to have my sexual orientation portrayed...lots of shows make out a person can “turn gay” when actually the person was always gay but closeted, or a bisexual.

The TIM was apparently a therapist, which is fucking terrifying given these people are living in a 24/7 delusion/performance/LIE and shouldn’t be permitted to treat anybody else’s mental illness IMO. He did make me cringe with his whiny affected voice and OTT flourishes (they try to imitate “feminine” gestures but end up just looking like drag queens or the campy gay men they are. Every. Single. Time. ) also, when Martha attacked him that was horrible and I felt bad for him, I’d never wish that on anyone, but her calling him a man was simply the truth 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway, the main part of the story, I liked how it made Martha more than just a villain - she was a fascinating character and the actress did a sublime job of making her both sympathetic and unhinged. I really felt for Donny/Richard Gadd as what he experienced was awful, especially his assault prior to meeting Martha, that was very upsetting to watch and I can’t believe he actually acted out such a personal and traumatic event - I really really couldn’t do that, so props to him for that.

Idk how I feel about people capitalising on their trauma...on one hand, why shouldn’t they? And it’s good to spread awareness and can be very healing to be open about such things, on the other hand, it makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable for reasons I don’t understand.

The thing I did notice; the internet wasted no time in tracking down Fiona Harvey and doxxing her, yet the actual coercive rapist was not doxed (or was he? I don’t have social media so don’t know if he was revealed) it seems like people will always rabidly vilify a woman, even more than a man who is objectively worse. DGMW she’s quite terrifying and if I was Donny/R. Gadd I would be afraid of her, BUT why not hunt down the opportunistic sexual predator who was clearly a serial rapist too...Martha was awful but so was he.

Do you think she’s sick? She must be, right? Does that excuse all the awful things she’s done? I feel like it’s compulsive on her part, that she is a pathological liar and a deeply disturbed individual...is exposing her straying too close to exploitation? Or does she deserve what she got? Idk, I guess so? She’s a stalker and sexually assaulted a man. IIRC the real lady, Fiona, didn’t actually physically assault the TIM OR go to court? I’m not super clued up on how embellished the story was?

If this has already been discussed then please say so, I can delete it :) if it hasn’t, then I look forward to reading your thoughts! :)
