I finished re-watch recently and I've been thinking about how WHOLESOME this series it. The main character is a fantastic, hardworking and smart, dedicated, loving woman. A great role model overall. It's very different from the new productions: it doesn't push any agendas on you, doesn't rely on crass humour, it's mostly unproblematic, features amazing personal growth of characters.
((While the first season is a bit of a disappointment it gets so much better))
I highly recommend it :)
My favorite aspect of the show is Leslie and Ron's relationship. I loved how it showed two people who are different in every way (politically, personality, outlook, etc), but still able to come together as friends and colleagues to get things done. Sadly, I doubt characters like this could be created in today's divisive political climate.
The only downside to this show is how every obnoxious Libertatian Bro thinks he's the living embodiment of Ron Swanson (even when they live in Mama's basement posting about weed and prostitutes all day). If real life libertarians were like Ron, this country would have a viable third party option. 🤣
Leslie is one of the best written women in media, I adore her character.
I used to love it when I was a libfem, not sure I still would. But I do adore Leslie, and apparently Amy Poehler is a mean evil "terf"? 😌
I’m doing a rewatch right now and Leslie Knope is definitely a terf. The show even mocks some of the queer culture stuff.
Lol, is she a TERF because she unabashedly supports girls and women while using sex based language?
It's a wonderful organization.
Uhhh at the very top of that page is "Disability Project at the Transgender Law Center Takeover", which leads here: https://amysmartgirls.com/disabilityprojectatthetransgenderlawcent/home
Definitely not a terfy organization - not anymore, anyway.
Hm. Based on this group of articles on her site, I don't think she's a terf.
Doesn't matter, she still got cancelled and is being described as ultra problematic in woke circles.

When did she get canceled? I didn't hear about it
It was a few years ago, when I was a libfem. There was a big outcry over her twansphobia on woke tumblr and Twitter. I think there must still be some remaining fake-deep articles on her problematicness floating about the internet if you search for them.
I think she made a twansphobic joke or something, but I'm sure that's part of it too. 😂
I'm critical of Leslie's treatment and behavior towards Anne. She comes off as too pushy and often disrespects her personal boundaries. Anne just takes the abuse. It seems like Anne settled for Leslie as a "best friend" because Pawnee is a miserable small town with no other women she can relate to. Meanwhile, Leslie had an UNHEALTHY obsession with Anne.
I would not be friends with Leslie but I would add her to my LinkedIn.
Yeah. I wasn't a fan of all the jokes about Anne being a "beautiful ethnic unicorn princess". It made Leslie look creepy and vaguely racist (and it doesn't jive with the rest of her character traits).
Am I the only one hates the last season? Everyone says the first is the worst, but I can't stand the final one. Like I never even watch it when I do rewatch the show. It was so unecessary, and I was pissed
No you’re not wrong last season SUUCKKKSS
I do love this show! I also really love Brooklyn 99 but people keep screaming about cop propaganda. I can kinda see it, but I've never really been one to believe the things I see in TV after the age of 13, so I just acknowledge them for the fine, absolutely 100% fictional cops that would only exist in a fantasy utopia, and enjoy the show.
(like greys is not medical realness. they get decent in surgery shots but besides that, nothing abt that show is realistic. it's just an enjoyable soap!)
Thanks for the recommendation! I always wondered about this show, and now I’ll definitely add to my watch list.😀

The first season is a bit of a slog. But it improves after that
Well... if you ignore the part where even the "nice" characters in the office constantly bully a coworker for no reason. Jokes like that showed me that the people who made Parks and Rec had a mean streak, even if our faves didn't.
Plus Tom is a jerk and only gets rewarded
Yeah, one of those guys you prefer to stay safely in the realm of sitcom character. The real-life Toms and Rons are not as lovable.
I like Parks and Rec; I watched every episode of every season, and there are very few shows I can say that about! But I'm a critical audience and it's imperfect.
Back when I was on TwoX before reddit went to shit, my flair was something like "IRL Leslie Knope" (one of the default flairs.) I adored her character, she's SO passionate, good-natured and hardworking. My favorite scene is "Punk-ass book-jockeys!"
Except for the ann perkins plot line. She decides to date herself. Next episode she
I just wish Chris Pratt weren't in it. Always find him insufferable.

It wouldn't be so bad if his character hadn't somehow snagged TWO of the best female characters in the show. Especially since Pratt wasn't even cute back then. LOL
Yeah, it annoyed the heck out of me. This silly man-child does not deserve Anne.
I did think it was kind of nice how the mature, responsible one told him to get lost and he ended up with someone who was equally immature, in compatible ways. I enjoy April's character a lot, but she was no one's mommy. Seemed like their arc as a couple was growing up together.
But Aziz Ansari is a rapist.
Uteruses before duderuses.
Ovaries before brovaries
