I know I’m late to the party but I need someone to share in my suffering. I promised my mom I’d binge it with her over this week and we’re two episodes in.
I mean the whole premise of “dowdy unfuckable woman needs 5 gay men to show her how to be a proper decoration” is already cringe but this is like a whole other level imo.
I love the Fab 5 by the way. I just wish they’d stick with making over men. Those are the people that actually NEED their advice. I want a season where they find hideous neckbeards and transform them into straight Antonis because we male-attracted women need that.
I loved the first run of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy . The original 5 gay men were truly empathetic to all the hapless, socially awkward, poorly groomed and dressed straight men that they set out to improve. Instead of a make-over, the original Fab Five called it a “make-better”. I couldn’t remember when it was on Bravo and found that it was on from 2003-2007 (pre-total genderwoo). It had a real sweetness at it’s core and I liked it.
Then came the reboot in 2018 on Netflix. Jonathan Von Ness makes my skin crawl. He (and the show) is a full-on TRA and the non-binary nonsense is really more than I can take.
I can’t watch it anymore and am really disappointed that they veered away from the original premise of the show into gender-land.
I watched that first run and quite enjoyed it too (it was on free to air television here). Wouldn’t dream of watching it now.
That first episode in the first season where they helped that sweet man by renovating his apartment and cleaning him up… I cried lol. I love the premise, but I think you’re right and they should stick with helpless men. It’s a little strange if they move to women - it moves into more sexist territory and isn’t enjoyable anymore
I used to love QE but I've skipped this season, purely because of the TIM pandering. I'm also over JVN and his gender special nonsense, it would be so much more empowering if he said "actually, I'm this way and it doesn't make me any less of a man" and redefining the expectations of men rather than spouting non-binary crap.
Nobody asked but Bobby is my favorite, he seems the most grounded out of all of them.
I loved the first four seasons, but JVN is so shoved up his butt. I like Bobby best, always have.
We used to watch Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and that was great, albeit I never liked the clothes they chose.
So we started watching the new ones when they came on Netflix, but we can’t make it through more than a couple of episodes each season.
Jonathan is straight up annoying and “look at meeeeee!” and irritates both of us.
But I also feel like they don’t really do much anymore besides Tan and the decorating guy. Like the food guy literally makes a salad every episode, unless he can talk one of the family members into making “their specialty”.
The culture guy just takes them to do some sport or something, they cry and hug and that’s it.
And Jonathan, I mean does he do their hair or is he too busy twirling and swishing and making it all about him?
Also Tan needs to quit with the “French Tuck”. It just looks like the shirt got pulled out at the back from sitting down.
The TIM episode we skipped, and I couldn’t sit through the TIF who had removed her breasts, it made me feel sick.
Tan and the French tuck!! Always Tan with the French tuck! 😂
Idk, I can see why JVN would annoy you but he comes across really sweet to me. I agree Karamo has the most important job and like one quick conversation isn’t going to fix shit. But it can start the process maybe.
Overall nothing much is getting fixed or changed and it’s to make the audience feel good I guess.
I can't watch any of the new stuff. I watched one of the first episodes with the old cast recently. I miss when they found a basic straight guy and made fun of him but also explained basic hygiene.
That was the best episode ever. The ones with straight guys are always so good.
I don’t know how anyone can stand to watch a show where the premise is 5 catty misogynists indoctrinating women into the fashion industry and standards... I don’t watch shows with that many men in general, least of all ones that put on a squeaky, ““feminine”” (because women sound like literal nails on a chalk board, right?) voice. It’s just so vain, superficial, and indoctrinates both the audience and contestants/guests (whatever they’re called) into patriarchy. I’m assuming they “recommend” makeup for the women don’t they? Stilt them up in heels? Stuff them into impractical clothing and jewelry? Sludge chemical products into their hair?
THEY DO ALL OF THAT!!
The first sentence should be the tagline for the show!
I had the same exact reactions as you with these first two episodes. I tried the third and when JNV went ton a rant about how he doesn't "identify as a man" I had to quit.
Second to all that, the guys are all getting older but acting like they are perpetually in their early 20s (WHEEEEEE!!!!) And once I saw that, it just felt sad.
I used to love the show. It used to make me happy. I just can't anymore.
JVN is weird and creepy and I do not care how he identifies, he's a man. Has he seen his beard? Is he aware of how creepy his ad with Simone Biles was, where he claimed to wear her leotard?
I didn’t want to spend the time to rant about the JVN thing. He also looks really ill. I fear for his health.
I abhor jvn. It seems alok has gone around successfully converting him, Sam smith, and Demi lovato to nb
Wasn't that man with a lesbian fetish the national record-holder in female weightlifting or something equally misogynistic? I loved the first woman. I'm glad she liked her remodelled home and that she learned to embrace her natural hair. Very sad, though, that they screwed with her style just because she was an older woman.
The dude in the skirt is insufferable. I cannot stand him, and he’s the biggest reason I threw the whole series in the trash can, after just one episode, mind you. (I do not support men wearing skirts/dresses. They don’t get to be brave and stunning by wearing garments traditionally used to oppress women.) The original series was so much better when the slant was fixing straight men.
I have to say I am completely over it with Jonathon Von Ness. Besides how he treated the woman in episode one, he is now "non-binary" which is displayed by him wearing high heels and dresses. He also in a future episode, spends the whole time trying to indoctrinate someone into gender woo. The entire show was trans propaganda.
And yeah, the entire TIM in a sporting competition?! Weight lifting? OMFG.
Yeah, fine for the TIM to be sexy, but not the grandma.
