SpoilerIT Crowd Season 3, Episode 4: The Speech
I'm introducing my husband to the IT Crowd. I watched this show probably 10 years ago, several years before I knew about Gender Ideology and TRAs. So I didn't specifically remember the episode that features a TIM. I rewatched it last night and honestly... I don't get why it's sOooOoo bad that it needed to be banned.
I'm no fan of TIMs especially after getting to know some of them. But that episode seemed sympathetic to TIMs to me, not insulting. Or if anything it's saying the Douglas is a misogynist and his perfect woman is actually a man but he's homophobic so he can't accept that. Obviously the scene where they fight after breaking up would contradict the idea that men lose their strength after hormones but I wouldn't classify that as being offensive in anyway.
Basically I think there's been a lot made over nothing. There are more jokes at women's expense in that show (Aunt Irma being the big one) and you don't see women trying to get it banned.
bf and i watched the whole show recently. most offensive thing i found (and i'm pretty easily offended at times, others not) was the portrayal of autism in the special, when they try to portray roy as having ASD. douglas is such a misogynist but the good acting can make me give the character a pass because i know it's a character (sometimes i just can't do that). we're currently watching father ted.
I've never seen any of the specials, I didn't even know that was a thing! (Though there was apparently a pilot episode of a US IT Crowd with Joel McHale as the Roy character). The ASD thing does sound like it would be a bit iffy.
I love Douglas but I honestly thinks it's just because of his voice. Because the character is awful. I did like the part where he roofies himself and then the narrator is like "even though this isn't how roofies work" when Douglas goes after Roy and Moss.
richard ayoade was in the pilot IIRC. we didn't watch the US pilot, we tend to find US remakes kind of iffy (we watched a couple of episodes of the US taskmaster and didn't like it).
the special is called "the internet is coming", only really worth watching if you're a major fan.
i do love douglas' voice too lol, very soothing in a way. i agree it's a very awful character and the whole roofie thing is questionable. i think the episode with the moss stealing the grand designs dvds is my favourite. when he says "where did you come from lil fella?" to the robot it kills me every time.
Haha, yes that episode is great. The part where the cop says the computer is running on Vista and Moss is like "We're going to die!!" was my favourite.
I watched the special last night (because I'm a pretty big fan even before I found out about Graham being GC), not super great but a nice little send-off for the show.

That definitely stood out to me too! It's interesting how being more aware of radical feminism and GI has changed how I view things. It has changed my worldview.
