They always think itâs some âgotcha!!â when they mention other chromosome combos, but if you have a Y (regardless of how many Xs there might be) youâre technically a male, as far as I know! And thereâs nobody out there producing something thatâs kind of between a sperm and an egg - youâre capable/potentially capable of making either one or the other. This whole spectrum thing they keep pushing is so utterly ridiculous.
To my understanding youâre basically right, but it goes slightly more specific than thatâyouâre male if you have an expressed SR-Y (âsex-determining regionâ) gene, which is supposed to be located on the Y chromosome in humans (mammals). When expressed, it creates the SRY protein which is the instigating transcription factor for male structural development.
If the SR gene is misplaced, you can be an XX male (or XXX⌠onwards if thatâs biologically valid). If the gene is nonfunctional, you can be an XY female, although IIRC lacking the genes from the missing arm of the Y chromosome makes that configuration much rarer and crippling to life.

Chromosomes are not binary?? ffs You either have a Y chromosome or you don't. You either have a functioning SRY gene or you don't. There are exactly two types of gamete and no intermediate gamete so trying to claim physiology is a spectrum is bullshit. Cosmetic changes, whether caused by hormones or surgery never changed anybody's sex and sex is the only thing that matters in a single-sex space.

If you managed to make a scientific breakthrough akin to disproving gravity that proves without a shadow of a doubt our understanding of sexual reproduction is incorrect, it still doesn't prove gender exists.
