Not ending up in the ER with objects stuck up our butts

Not starting genocides

Going to the doctor when that mole changes/that lump shows up/crushing chest pain/etc

gluhbirneApril 6, 2023(Edited April 6, 2023)

I read an article recently that proposed that on average, women are better at nearly all activities that humans are better than other species at, such as empathy, language, communication -- and on average, men are better than women at things that other species absolutely kick our butts in, like height, weight, speed, strength, aggression, etc.

If this rings a bell with anyone, I'd love a link! I forgot to bookmark it at the time.

[Deleted]April 6, 2023

Would also love a link to this!

Given what I know about primate evolution, it definitely checks out. In great apes, it's generally females who use tools and display greater signs of intelligence. The hypothesis for this is that females generally develop better intellect than males to offset their lack of physical prowess and lack of penchant for violence vs that of males from the same species. It stands to reason that the same can be said for humans.

DurableBookApril 6, 2023

I don't know about an article but I feel like we could answer this pretty easily on our own.

  1. Make list of those activities or abilities that humans are uniquely good at

  2. Define performance metrics for each of above

  3. Pull numbers for male/female performance accordingly

Apart from the cognitive abilities that will probably top the list, the only physical abilities that I can think of are our dexterity and tool use, and our functions as endurance predators.

MissBehavedApril 6, 2023(Edited April 6, 2023)

We can fit into smaller spaces (height-wise, width-wise sometimes, appendages usually, we are more flexible, more dexterous, and see colour better than men. We clock TIPs better than men. We are more compassionate than men, for both sexes and for non-human organisms too. We excel at certain moves due to our flexibility, lighter weight, and difference in centre of gravity for things like rock climbing, skii jumping, ballet dancing, and gymnastics.

Personal opinion here: women are better cooks than most male chefs, because women can make a wholesome hearty meal out of almost anything on hand. I've noticed when men cook they go out and get expensive ingredients and put them together in a nice way for that one meal, but it's a useless method for keeping a family fed. Also, someone needs to inform Ramsay that his scrambled eggs are soupy and a number of his Asian dishes made my mum cry.

LepistaNudaApril 7, 2023

As a former pro cook, what I see is women are better at things that take skill and technique, especially in cases where that skill has to be constantly repeated and must remain consistent. Many women in restaurants find themselves taking on a lot of baking duties because of this. Most men don't have the patience for exacting technique (and many lack discipline for it as well).

VestalVirginApril 6, 2023

Do you think that's genetic, or are they just not, you know, trying?

I think arrogance might play a huge part there.

Pretty sure men can learn how to feed a family if they have to.

MissBehavedApril 7, 2023(Edited April 7, 2023)

The question asked what women are better at, not whether it's genetic or not. Men COULD learn this, and some do, but as a class they expect praise every time they enter a kitchen and emerge with a plate of food. Just like men COULD learn to be better drivers, but as a class are not.

drdeeisbackApril 6, 2023

Great observation.

zuubatApril 7, 2023

As the essential sex, we are designed to survive famine and in general are far more energy-efficient than men. This is why most men lose weight quite easily if they want, whereas for us it's a teeth-gnashing battle.

Rebuilding and running society after the men all run off to kill eachother.

CaeruleaApril 6, 2023

Haha, yes.

VestalVirginApril 6, 2023(Edited April 6, 2023)

Anyone mentioned giving birth yet?

Everything a man can do, a woman can do, too. Perhaps slower, but she will get it done eventually.

But no matter how much time you give a man, he cannot birth a child. Not even a sickly, weak child. Men aren't just bad at giving birth, they cannot do it at all.

(For the lurking TRAs: No, feces do NOT count. )

It is ridiculous how men always forget about that one, seeing as it is the very sole reason why women are handicapped in the physcial strength resort.

proudcatladymad because angryApril 6, 2023

Giving birth? How about MAKING PEOPLE

TortoisemouseApril 6, 2023

It is ridiculous how men always forget about that one, seeing as it is the very sole reason why women are handicapped in the physcial strength resort.

It's also ridiculous how men always forget about that one, see as it is the VERY REASON THEY EXIST AT ALL. (Actually that's probably why they "forget" about that one).

VestalVirginApril 6, 2023

Yeah, it is the one thing they oppress and exploit women for, and they pretend it doesn't exist.

If men get rid of women, they'll return to living like apes in about a generation or two. Probably go extinct soon after.

They're psychologially inferior.

My dad holds the opinion that children need to be taught empathy and respect for others.

For a long time I thought it was nonsense, because ... who invented those things? Clearly someone has to have come up with the concept, and it must have happened somewhen during the evolution of the first mammals, because mammals depend on the females loving their offspring.

But nowadays, I think he's right with regard to boys. Boys are taught that other people are people too, by their mothers, and perhaps by fathers who learnt how to be human, from their mothers.

Some self-selectedly peaceful populations of monks might hold out for a while, but on the whole ... I think society would collapse soon after the first woman died, from the lack of civilising influence alone.

Not even considering the extreme psychological damage done by the absence of a mother. Babies who were born too early and kept in an incubator have attachment issues and all sorts of things - now imagine being grown in an artificial womb the whole time!

WhichWitchAmIApril 6, 2023

I think they’d return to acting like apes in about 2 weeks….

Making our communities better, when given even the meagerest of resources, rather than spending those resources on ourselves (something long established in foreign aid institutions and useful for advancing women's rights in highly patriarchal places).

Hell, quite a few men never learn how to feed themselves.

Also, aren't dudes constantly whining that now that women are less actively impeded in education, we're leaving them in the dust?

KaboodleApril 6, 2023(Edited April 6, 2023)

Which is why microlending programs are so successful with women, and disastrous with men. For every $1 spent on a charitable program for women, you get around $2.50 in return on investment, and for men, the return on investment is $0.35.

As for things that women do better than men, can we also add:

-getting food inside our mouths instead of on the floor

-containing our urine and faeces to the inside of a toilet bowl

-not abandoning our offspring

-not trying to fuck our friends

-thinking before we speak

xy_equals_guyApril 6, 2023
  • Better drivers
  • Better grades in education
  • Learn to speak earlier
  • Better at looking after children
  • Better team players
  • Better immune systems
  • Better at controlling emotions, especially rage, hate and jealousy
  • Better at maintaining peace - men cause most wars

Peripheral vision--180 degrees! Intuition. Both of the above are safety adaptations and why they say moms "have eyes in the backs of their heads."

TortoisemouseApril 6, 2023

Do women really have more peripheral vision than men? I didn't know that.

AlexiaresApril 7, 2023

I don’t have a study on that ready to hand, but have an illustrative anecdote. A male acquaintance of mine worked for years as a teacher’s aide, and he learned from the kids that he had unusually good peripheral vision, because they couldn’t get away with things around him that they could around other male teacher’s aides. They didn’t bother trying the same shit on the women teachers and teacher’s aides because the women could see them.

queen_beastmodeApril 7, 2023

Wow that list really makes men seem like a bunch of depraved miscreants.

moody_apeApril 6, 2023

"no, i cannot name 1 thing. i can name several" - women in the comments form the snapshot hahahha

the only things we can't do better than men is having a y chromosome, i guess. all the rest can be arranged, even if it requires more than one woman (strength based activities).

jadegreenApril 7, 2023

The y chromosome is just a little stubby thing anyway, I'd rather have two full chromosomes. Men truly are defective women, by genetic definition.

CaeruleaApril 7, 2023

Yes. The pictures of that thing is hilarious.
