Today in town (population 250k+) a woman's car had stopped in the centre of the intersection. There were more than 3 cars between the woman's car and my gf's car and all had men as drivers. The men were sitting in their cars tooting their horns. No one was helping the woman. My gf got out and went to the woman's car and helped her get it started and out of the intersection. The woman was really appreciative.
Then as a nice cherry on the cake my gf walked back up the middle of the road flipping off all the male drivers who has sat there on their horns and done nothing to help. (Safer to do for her because a- we live in Australia, no guns; b- she's tall, broad, and not infrequently mistaken for male; c- she's an ex state champion boxer in her teen years, so if someone had tried to make it physical she was in an okay position to be confident of her safety; and d- she's been through the foster care system, she fights like her life depends on it because that's the gift of the foster care system.)
One guy who'd been on his horn took it personally that she was flipping the lot of them off for being jerks and decided to get out of his car, or so he planned. As he opened the door my gf shut it forcefully with her foot, then got into our car.
I'd tell you everyone in our car clapped but that would be a lie. 😝 But certainly I enjoyed hearing about it when she got home.
The joys of being female but having the ability to physically deal confidently with any likely male violence. 😍 I won't ever know the feeling personally as I'm small, not a fighter, and I don't have the tenacity that being in the foster care system forces you to have. But I thought others might vicariously enjoy this a little, as I did.
Women struggled to be admitted to universities, to win the vote, to have financial control over their lives. They're still struggling to preserve their reproductive rights. TiMs never had to fight for any of these things.
Heck, they're still struggling to be born, to even be seen as members of the human species . . .
This reminds me of Dave Chappelle's joke about how the trans rights movement is a rich White man's hobby. And how it would have gone if all the trans-women were poor Black people...
