It just pangs me with envy to see women from western countries here talk about getting abortions and stuff (ditto USA), because it's illegal here and has been for as long as written history here. and we still have a LONG way to go until that is even considered.
wearing the hijab is NOT empowering, and dear western libfems (especially the hijabis) who say it's empowering: no. women in countries like mine, Iran or Pakistan and many others DO NOT have this choice. in Iran, you will get imprisoned and in my country, well, you won't be imprisoned but you'll be shunned by family and society. it will be hard to find a job, you will be labelled "irreligious" and that will make you a target for islamist terrorist groups here.
polygamy is legal - this 70 year old rich politician businessman married a 21 year old woman in 2020. he already had 3 other, older wives. and everyone accused the 21 year old of being a gold digger.
women as leaders is still a concept men here (even some women, but I've never heard a woman object to female leaders) just can't digest. in February, while I was at work, one of my cousins who is a man came in to my workplace as part of his job, and we had small talk. my supervisor and the boss of the whole office is a woman (although she has higher ups as well cross country). he said stuff like "this is why nothing here works properly, it's all run by women, women shouldn't be leaders."
and you should've seen the meltdowns religious sheikhs and average men had when two women were elected for the Parliament. lol, it was fun to watch them seethe.
being gay is criminalized. there recently has been a leaked video of a boy who is about 19? he was I'd say gang raped by a group of older men when he was underage, but everyone is saying stuff like "he created this group, he's disgusting" and just.. acting like he consented to it? that he wasn't a kid who was fooled into this?
earlier last month, a girl had a video of her kissing another girl leaked, and she has been hounded with death threats, mockery, police investigations, public harrassment etc for being a lesbian. she has repeatedly denied the video was real, but it's too late.
feminism is something made fun of especially by imams and sheikhs (read: religious, powerful men). they laugh at women asking for basic rights, I hate them all. to men who say we don't need feminism anymore: shut the fuck up, yes we do.
Islam hasn't given us more rights, Mohammed's first wife was literally a rich businesswoman and his BOSS. what did he do? strip away women's right to be leaders by condemning it. Islam is a religion by a man for men, just like every other abrahamic religion.
doctors are also performing C sections on women without their consent. we have the some of the highest rates of C sections, like 65% of women have Cesarean babies. it's ridiculous, these (male) doctors just want to get it done and over with instead of waiting.
a husband of a woman struggling with infertility was told by a doctor to "get another wife". great medical advice.
I'm bi, ex muslim (punishable by death here, lol), and I want to take off my hijab but I am very, very suppressed here. I'm getting ready to jump ship soon, but I just want women in my country to have a better future, a future without pressured marriages (a girl i know married a 47 year old man when she was 19, several girls i know got married at 17, 18, 19 to older men), a future where we have equal opportunities as men, a future where we are not raped left and right and then blamed for it and then the men who raped us only getting a slap on the wrist, a future without this oppression.
if you read this til the end, thank you. just a long rant because I'm just so frustrated.
