Awesome! My local mom’s board (private) won’t allow political topics so I just talk about it with the moms and dads in my circle. I get the general sense that my area (very woke) wants to be progressive and make sure trans people aren’t discriminated in terms of housing and employment, but most people I have spoken to think the EA and EO are an overreach. It’s one thing to prevent discrimination, it’s another to essentially redefine the world in a way that denies reality.
Ugh, that sucks they don’t allow political talk— I feel like that just doesn’t happen in men’s online spaces.
I find that mentioning SCOTUS’ decision in Bostock last June is a helpful talking point to show that the Equality Act [and adding gender identity into state law ] really isn’t about extending anti discrimination protections to LGBT ppl— the Court ruled that firing someone for being trans or gay violates currently existing provisions of federal civil rights law. The Equality Act merely removes sex-affirmative exemptions and removes all grounds women have to legally challenge the discriminatory consequences men’s inclusion in various contexts.
I read through a few pages. Glad to see rational people are not taking the TRA's shit.
Keep reading beyond 2 pages. They're only lukewarm peaking.
Yeah if you have a certain level of privilege, this won't affect them at all.
I thought it got stronger toward the end, but admittedly I just skimmed through a few pages
There are people towards the end that thread who are honest-to-God arguing that being a eunuch was a good thing, actually.
Person A >Do you think those eunuchs and the choir boys chose to be castrated? Somehow, I don't think so. But, if an adult wants this, then that's for them to decide. But, adolescents? Not such a good idea.
Person B for Batshit >You don't know what life was like for a poor kid in the 18th century who could no longer sing and had no other skills. And those eunuchs? Who do you think actually ran the Ottoman Empire? People lined up for those jobs, despite the drawbacks. Do a deep dive into a history. Learn why some thought a little snipping was better than a life of misery and poverty.
"A little snipping." You can't make this shit up.
ETA: Also this doesn't exactly support the TWAW argument does it? They are saying that maybe some eunuchs chose to be eunuchs based on external factors, not that they were always eunuchs on the inside.
lol'd at the second nutjob. Everyone, its ok to finally delete your accounts here! One DC Urban Moms user said modern genital mutilation is totally okay because poverty drove some people to accept it as the norm in the 16th century!
They seem still early in their journey, but at least they're moving toward the truth.
The consequences are so enormous that I think it takes a while for people to wrap their heads around it. They start with bathrooms and sports and then think about a serial rapist or pedophile having his crimes counted as a woman's. About their daughters being forced to be nude in the lockerroom with the same guy who sexually harassed them in tenth grade, but now in eleventh grade calls himself Zoe and wears skirts. About rape victims being called bigots for requesting female healthcare staff. Or seeing male colleagues suddenly count as women on various boards and leadership positions. It takes a while to work through it for most women, especially women leading relatively privileged lives where they don't know any women in prison or shelters and don't think about them.
I'm honestly thrilled to see this dragged into the sunlight.
That's great if they're peaking, but, it also seems like too little, too late. The Equality Act has strong odds of passing and a lot of women and girls will be hurt by it before it eventually gets dismantled.
And DC votes like almost 90% Democrats. These are not ultra-conservative women...they are likely highly educated, upper-middle class democrat women, with probably a good mix of different ethnicities and races. This is very, very heartening. It just shows that when allowed anonymity, it's obvious the majority of people are GC.
Isn’t it very heartening!! I remember randomly coming across this specific thread in August: Do transgender rights outweigh women's rights?.
it gave me hope that women outside of GC Twitter and Terfbook were starting to wake up. Its good to see that discussion about this topic have increased significantly since then too
