Yesterday (I think) some girl posted on r/AmItheAsshole asking if the was the asshole because they didn't want to provide free childcare for her sister. Obviously she's not the asshole and no one should be forced to do this, but I'm absolutely appalled about the way the sister was described and treated by the commenters.
Her sister was 17 years old when she fell pregnant and the parents FORCED her to drop out of high school. She was forced to start working and, obviously, because she doesn't have a high school diploma, only is able to find low paying/minimum wage jobs. Her parents refuse to help her with childcare (obviously I don't blame her sisters as they are working/going to college)/finding childcare (I imagine it must be really hard to find cheap childcare in the middle of a pandemic as well). Every single person was saying that the parents shouldn't be "forced" to pay for their child's mistake and holy fuck that blew my mind!! That girl was 17 when she fell pregnant and HER PARENTS forced her to drop out of high school and work minimum wage and aren't even trying to help her with childcare/finding childcare. People kept suggesting she get a GED, but how will she if no one helps her with the childcare she needs to work and get money for a GED? And who's gonna watch/pay for someone to watch her child? It boggles me so much the way people basically "isolate" teen moms and throw her to the wolves. Obviously falling pregnant when you're a teen is a not a perfect or ideal situation, but they way they are treated by family and society is almost as if they are lepers... No wonder many of these mom with no support end depressed and broke and isolated.
My apologies if this is not the right place/I didn't express myself in the right way but shit, it surprised me how much women are hated/scornered on the daily....
