Hi everyone! A special thank you to /u/Girl_undone for allowing me to post this here! I'm from ThePinkPill.co and I wanted to talk to you about my project.
This post is longer than I intended but I want to share for the sake of transparency and to open the door to any and all questions you may have.
I'm Giga and I am the former head mod of the now banned /r/TruFemcels and /r/AskTruFemcels.
I also modded for /r/PinkPillFeminism and created /r/TheGlowUp.
Femcels created /r/PinkPillFeminism, /r/BlackPillFeminism, /r/Vindicta. /r/BlackGirlDiaries and /r/FemaleDatingStrategy were also born from women in our communities.
It didn't take long for FDS to auto-remove the term 'femcel' and then disallow topics from these women despite the fact that we are usually a proxy for women of all types and personal issues. Right now on Reddit, there is even a campaign suggesting we, Gender Critical/Ovarit, WGTOW are trying to take FemaleDatingStrategy over as the only feminist space on Reddit. I talk about it here. But this is not true, we were long silenced there.
I mention all this to say I understand that most people have a lot of misinformation about this group especially since the spaces we make get taken over by women who always agree with us but hate the concept.
But for this reason, /r/Trufemcels is very special to me and it explains the fire in my soul as I pursue this project.
When Reddit unfairly banned the sub, I was incensed. I hurt for a lot of the women who lost years of intimate writings, thoughts, and delightful shitposts. We love our memes. I hurt for me too. And to see SO many female subs just completely shut down while other groups are afforded protections I never received as a woman or minority on Reddit..
To see how men afford men the platforms to incite hate and misinformation about women for many years! But a sneeze or a false accusation can get female subs wiped out no matter how much we walk on eggshells..
It is simply unacceptable.
So I created ThePinkPill.co
Because there is probably nothing more unforgivable than silencing women. Especially the most marginalized ones.
ThePinkPill.co is a Reddit clone, essentially, but WITHOUT the censorship and the heavy maintenance of unrelenting misogyny.
I am opening it up to all female communities - regardless of ideologies or interests. Banned, quirky, wholesome, angry, idc. All women are welcome. We are not a specifically feminist site so it may be the case some subs we don't agree with will sprout up. I cannot forsee how this will be a problem because for me, the big picture is simple. I'm making room because Reddit would not and women as a class deserve better.
The idea is not to force women to agree with any group but to provide space online for them to create their communities and speak freely.
Because if there is one thing I understand is the powers that be shutting you up, not letting you defend yourself, allowing people to railroad you.
I know this because of my communities and my personal life as a Black woman. I felt I was given a voice for the first time when I found our little shitposting sub turned safe space. Its nice to get away from tone policing and ongoing invalidation especially from men. My entire life, it has always been the case that I and my voice was too small to matter in any of the conversations of the world. So for me, to take away the space alotted to talk to women I relate to was the same as being put back into silence.
A couple of things.
I don't code. No idea how. I just jumped into this without a second thought and haven't stopped since. Oops. I've been learning on the go to get this project up. I'm a person with RICH imagination lol and I want to give women the world when we get going in terms of development of the site and future app. What greater FU is there than providing the bells and whistles to all the women who had to walk on eggshells on Reddit?
I'm actually new to feminism. So I'm learning that on the go too. Nothing has shown me the value of feminism like the absolute audacity of angry men online. Those of you who used to see my drag them all over Reddit (lol) will know they would always yell at you and say "feminist SAY", expecting me to argue talking points I never even heard of. Bruh.. many of us just happen to be female and just trying to live
Not sure where to find women or explain to them the heart of the mission here. The women of Ovarit have been a source of comfort, inspiration, and guidance. I am in full agreement with their belief in MORE women's spaces online. For this reason, I want to support other sites like this one and communities. In my mind, the female network online needs to grow to the point that the internet is no longer the digital version of the old
Female coders. Omg. A much needed high value resource. Wherever your are! Giga loves you and welcomes your assistance anytime! If anyone knows the forums and spots these ladies tend to congregate, please share so that I can share. We had volunteers on FDS before the mods killed the post.
Since we are only at the very beginning stages but going full speed ahead, I welcome you all to ThePinkPill.co and speak freely in the communities that are for you.
The website does allow everyone but if the sub is Women only, that gets enforced. If we see men trying to muck up the place with misogyny, they are out. Certain topics will not be maintained on the site because the last thing I'm interested is hosting is anyone's agenda, creeping and taking our spaces away again. I'm not making room for people to attack our right to speak in our own spaces and that is probably going to result in me having to turn away some people in service of the space.
So that's the gist of it. Plenty of mistakes have and will be made. Growing pains are a part of the process. And also the Internet is huge and scary. But it's the principle of the thing and I'm never quitting so here we go!
Wishing every single reader positivity and good vibes! Thank you for reading!
Edit: I guess it's important I reiterate that this post and project is not about femcels or trying to get people for that community.
But rather for a new Reddit for women. I have zero aspirations about being Reddit in itself. I still use it for what it is. But this .. this is for us. And if it's a niche site forever that houses female communities, I will be satisfied. I reject the status quo and I'm done with it
