Reading this article by Hadley Freeman and that line hit me:

It's not cats that men hate. It's not dogs that men hate.
Men hate the love that a woman has for something 'inferior' to him, when she doesn't love him.
He feels entitled to a womans love, & he resents, & is jealous of, anything that can achieve the love of a woman, when he himself can't. Women loving thier pets but not a man is, to men, a reminder of thier own inadequacy & failure; of his rejection.
That's why men use 'lonely old cat woman' as an insult - to them, women loving thier pet is a woman loving something inferior & below them - & they think we should be ashamed of it. "I'm better than a CAT!" he sneers...
But to women, loving our pets is about loving something that is far more worthy of our love than an entitled, selfish, rude, brutal man.
'Lonely old cat woman' comes from a place of jealousy & hate, from resentment & inadequacy.
I guess most people already know this. But it just dawned on me.
The technical term is twink, and they can only “pass” so long as they stay very skinny (doable but easy to lose) and young (impossible).
Not just skinny but also wear heavy makeup, watch lighting, take care with angles, and depend heavily on photoshopping/filters
He "passes" only to the degree his photos pass. When you see unfiltered/unaltered photos of him, he's unmistakably male.
His profile is painfully male. He looks a lot more feminine from the front, but the moment he turns his head...ouch.
