Found a book that seems very appropriate today that's proving to be a great way to open the topic of pretenders: Do Like a Duck Does! by Judy Hindley and Ivan Bates

A mama duck and her 5 ducklings are going about their business when a fox (a "hairy scary stranger") tries to pretend to be a duck. He pretends to be a duck so he can get close to the ducklings and eat one of them. The mama duck uses some tricks and ends up proving the fox is not a duck and causing the fox away by pressuring the fox to prove he's a duck by swimming (he can't).

I especially loved that it's called the "hairy scary stranger." It could have easily just been a "haha silly fox, foxes aren't ducks" but it deliberately goes out of its way to point out how bad the fox is. This isn't just a fox confused or playing dress up, this is a predator.

I thought I'd share for other mamas. Any other books (other than the obvious Emperor's New Clothes) y'all can think of?

yes you are a wolf in sheep’s clothing, meaning you are a predator disguised as prey.
