I don't know if this is a word most women dislike or just a me-thing.
Every time I hear it I hate it. I think because it carries sexually-related associations in my mind that I formed at a very early age? Or maybe was just an early reminder when I was little that different words were used in association to me and other girls than for boys in an unnecessary way.
I have always just called it "underwear". I've never needed to use the word "panties". "Women's underwear" works just fine instead.
