I've been active in fandoms for video games and anime since late 2000s. In the last couple of years (especially since the pandemic started and people became more addicted to the internet than ever) I've seen an exponential increase in strange, off putting behavior from young people, mainly gen z but also many millennials. I'm mainly imterested in female oriented media so the overwhelming majority of these weirdos are sadly women (both regular and the gender confused sort). They use very sexual, shocking language (often inspired by porn and drag culture) in everyday conversation and act surprised when others don't like it. Some examples below:
using slurs like "bitch" to playfully address other female fans they aren't close to, using it and even worse misogynistic slurs spitefully against any real or fictional woman who has had a moral failing while using much less aggressive language when talking about equally bad men
when fangirling over attractive people/fictional characters, instead of using straightforward language "he's so handsome" or playful exaggeration "marry me sir", they say violent masochistic things like "choke me" "he could treat me like garbage and I'd lick his shoe"
extreme self degrading bios in social media like saying their pronouns are "he/him/hole", instead of cute usernames like "X's #1 fan" "Y's wife" they now pick gross names like "
popular tiktok phrases taking the something about women and turning it weird and sexual, like calling attractive women "mother", using memes like ""Excuse me? Sorry. Mommy? Sorry. Mommy? Sorry." to explain attraction to women, using "serve cunt" to mean being cool (unsurprisingly, rupaul's drag race is the origin of the term), putting a "pussy" at the end of every damn term
extreme pressure to kowtow to trends such as support for BDSM and gender ideology, I will not go into details since this isn't the circle for these things
claiming they want to see strong female characters in fiction but ignoring all recommendations unless they are some flavor of "queer fiction" and having a toxic and sexualized idea of what it means to have mentally and emotionally strong female characters, any female characters that show guts is assumed to be a dominatrix, I have had people interrupt my gushing of a sexually confident female character many times with their fantasies about how she must "peg her man", as if women cannot take the lead in sex without the help of a dick
Might add more later but I'm reaching the limits of my anger, will finish here for now. If you are another non-pornsick lonely nerd suffering like me, please share your experience! I try to protect my sanity by blocking weirdos as much as possible, but it's not equally effective on all social platforms so I'm curious to hear what other fellow sufferers do.
Edit: for spelling
