Rantso sick of absurdly hyperbolic titles
Posted January 18, 2024 by Ptarmagant in Women

I hate that titles, especially of YouTube videos, are so extreme. "So-and-so CRUSHES someone-else." 'Audience left GASPING at this guy's OUTRAGEOUS statement!', "Some kid ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS gas station Karen!" 'Wait till the end. You'll be SHOCKED.' They're never that amazing. Frequently, they barely qualify as moderately interesting. The words aren't particularly pithy, or erudite. The big reveal is invariably anticlimactic. I also don't care for recipes that will revolutionize weekday meals, or decorating tips that will 'change my life!' But what bothers me is the barbaric cruelty of some titles. It's always about devastation, annihilation, obliteration. What's wrong with "Clever student uses logic to change minds" Or " Pithy quip stops critic mid-argument." It really bugs me that everyone and everything has become so immoderate. Nothing will do except total erasure of people or ideas that someone finds wanting. It's absolute, unempathetic, and instantaneous. They come across to me as so vicious I'm loth to even click on them. We can't function as a society with everyone being so unyielding. Honestly, I despair.

Especially the founders/admins. What a thankless job with lot of frustrations. Thank you Admins for all that you do.

The decision to hit pause over the US election moment and let it settle was wise and gives me confidence in our Admins.

As to the “Is Ovarit leaning right?” issue:

Part of that impression is an effect of the sheer velocity of gender-themed tabloid and white paper-class content pumping out from the right.

I’m glad to be aware of all that stuff and I think it’s good this is a space where teams of Riley Gaineses rub up against gender abolitionist stone butches.

We’re having a strongly moderated conversation, because that’s what it takes to center women and girls.

I was actually relieved that Ovarit took a break during that period, too. I mean, really, either way would have been fine, but I was confused by the claims that this site is getting too conservative when I'm on here all the time and barely saw any support for Trump at all. The conservative claims seemed like a veiled threat to confirm to our haters that we are indeed all abortion-hating trad wives masquerading as feminists.

I was wondering where the pro Trump and anti abortion stuff was too. We should at least have receipts, maybe the mods already have these types of users on a watch list.

I'm so grateful for this space, the hard work of the admins and all of the highly intelligent contributors. ❤️

Thank you. It really matters.

Yes, I know. I think as an art object with no explicit christian symbols, it has resonance on a human level, beyond the original religious context (I am not Catholic).

FeminaNovember 18, 2024

Oh so it is Mary Magdalene? I have always liked her! I heard she was defamed a lot in order to reduce her importance to Christianity... For starters she was never a prostitute...

Carrots90November 18, 2024

I’ve really been thinking about how the Abrahamic religions try so hard to supress/oppress the divine feminine and everyone (even men) is worse off for it

FeminaNovember 18, 2024

Do you know all the instances that they did it?

ActualWendyNovember 19, 2024

Not ALL the instances, but a good bit of the latter part of the Torah/Old Testament are stories about men destroying the ritual objects, sacred groves, and temples of people who worship the Great Mother.

Carrots90November 19, 2024

For starters, the lack of strong female role models, or matriarchs, especially in the New Testament

I tried to find the artist for this sculpture but alas my, albeit quick, search didn't turn much up. As a mod here I must say that I appreciate the "thank you" sentiment shown in this post.

Anonymity symbolized by back view plus lots of hair, so you don't know who she is.

DontDoxxMeNovember 18, 2024

Symbolism is a magnificent thing isn't it; we can all see something different.

I see a woman shedding the trappings of a patriarchal society (i.e. the nakedness) embracing the freedom to choose what she wants to wear next; a long, hard slog though, through the mires of this manmade cruelty woman have to endure because we are born women (the mud caked feet).

Her long wild hair an afterthought, only there to shield what she holds (and what can it be? we will never know, we can only imagine and see what each of our unique minds comes up with).

The startling and dauntingly tiny precipice that she is formed on, YET she moves, her right foot taking that step, the tilt of her head trained upon the ground as she searches for her way forwards.

As this post is thank you to the mods (and monetary doners) I'm so appreciative, we still take that step forwards in hopes that we can forge new ground for other women despite any hardships.

Thank you for sharing what the image evokes for you. I enjoyed reading your interpretation.

The original artwork is linked up above. It has religious roots, but I think the imagery stands on its own (for example, if you found it thousands of years after it was made and had no knowledge of the religious context, the image would still be compelling and evocative... IMO).
