RaveOrganized an all Women’s coffee Event with my female co workers
It was a huge success!! I work in a male dominated industry and we are all split in different teams around the city I live in. If I had to make an educated guess, I’d say 80% or so of the employees are men. And it gets lonely.
After a work meeting at the main office I noticed I was one of 3 women in attendance. The other 20 or so were men. I had been aching for a chance to meet and know more women in person. I had a lightbulb moment and started talking to the other two women and asked if they would be interested in organizing an unofficial Ladies Coffee event for the other women at our company.
They were instantly on board. We exchanged info and to my delight, one of the women I spoke too ran with the idea and selected a time and place and invited as many women she could find.
It was a HUGE success! Everyone was talking, and laughing! It was a huge hit! We were there until the shop closed and asked us to leave!Even my co worker who was hesitant to attend came by! She turned to me at one point and said “I’m actually glad I came!”
It was so obvious we needed this sort of time together. I sent invites out for the next event annd told them to tell their other female co workers.
I have a list of everyone’s names/contact info so we can do it again! And I’m so thrilled that it worked out! I even called my grandma to talk about it! I told guess the point of this post is to express how thrilled I am this worked, and to tell others that it’s possible to do little things like this. It’s hard in this day and age to have genuine interaction with others. Especially other women. But if you have an opportunity, take it! Or make it!
I’ve been feeling a fire in my belly since I peaked a few months ago to do something positive. I think I found it. :)
