Yesterday I was having a discussion over text with two friends about the ethics of being a billionaire (which was a fucking mess and left me feeling like shit tbh) and I mentioned that the only ethical thing to do as a billionaire would be donating tons of money until you no longer are. My friend told me that it would never happen and I said that I only know one person who did, and it was JKR.
The other friend instantly jumped to say that she is transphobic and all that, and said that she must have donated that money in order to clean her image. I played a bit dumb and said that she probably doesn't care that much about her image (if she did she wouldn't be defending women's rights like she is, but I didn't say that out loud).
They insisted that it had to be because of the transphobic tweets, so told them that I had just looked it up and she lost her status as a billionaire in 2012, but she only started saying transphobic stuff in 2018. The group chat went very quiet after that lol
Regarding the previous conversation, the one about billionaires... It was exhausting. My friend thinks that it wouldn't be selfish to hoard money that she will never uses because "she earned it" (we are talking billions), and she said that even if she saw someone dying of hunger next to her it wouldn't be unethical not to feed that person with her hypothetical billions of dollars. She felt insulted because I called billionaires selfish assholes. She said that 80K dollars per month wouldn't be enough for some people to live comfortably. I can't srsly 😭
