DiscussionThoughts on No Nut November?
Posted November 2, 2024 by FastWaves in Women

I'm pretty cynical and I don't buy it. 11 months of the year the male orgasm is "a need" and all we see/hear from men is whining about lack of sex, defending porn, etc. Then they claim not to have sex or masturbate for an entire month?

Just curious to see what you all think of it.

IMO it's just another excuse to talk about their dicks in public. 'nut' as a verb is gross.

I agree. I hate it.

I thought it was mainly a joke. It is stupid, though, how when men talk about the harms of masturbation, they immediately start talking about the harms of porn. They're so porn-addicted that masturbation inherently involves porn in their minds.

I know! I am anti-porn, I am not anti-masturbation!

Explaining this to men and watching their brains break. That’s honestly one of the major deal breakers for me while dating and ultimately a huge roadblock to finding a partner. I want someone who’s anti porn, who isn’t a 2 pump chump, actually enjoys sex and not just domination and can reach orgasm without degrading or abusing me. A recycled porn stash in the woods used to be a male gold mine and now dudes can’t get off without their phone, it’s pure addiction! Like wtf It’s called an imagination, mine works perfectly well thanks!

I doubt it leads to any lasting change. Many people who struggle with substance abuse and try Dry January, Sober October, or any extended period of abstinence do end up using significantly less or even sticking with sobriety after that period is over; I have never heard about this happening with No Nut November. But if I’m wrong and it is a catalyst for sustained change, even if only for a minority of people, then I think it’s a good thing.

I don’t see anything wrong with masturbation, though. It’s porn and behavioral addiction that are the problem, and those two seem to be causally linked.

Most men don't partake in it. I mean it's a very online thing and most men probably haven't heard of it either.

I think it's fine though. Men breaking away from pornography and becoming self-aware of the effects of porn is a process and if turning it into some silly internet challenge helps them with that process, so be it.

Separating masturbation and porn in their minds is another process entirely and .. holy hell is that a tough one. =/

A gimmick, but very rarely, some dude decides he's done with porn and/or realises he spends way too much time jerking off.

Masturbation on its own isn't the problem. I, in no way, want to go back to the Kellogg's days. But for men it is often linked to porn and the increasing 'normalisation' of porn doesn't help. It gives me a tiny glimmer of hope there's another side, No nut November, came around.

But does it really help? I doubt it. Way more is needed.

kuzcos_poisonNovember 3, 2024

They just see it as a fun challenge, like dry January, not something to be taken seriously. Most men wouldn't think about it at all.

I don't know why they don't just change it to No Porn November. Nut if you need to, but leave the porn alone for a month.

(We all know most men would fail that too)

OnlyHumanNovember 2, 2024

Plenty of men don't do it or fail a few days in

MizunaNovember 2, 2024

I support anyone who realizes that they need to take a break from their vices. Good for them.

proudcatladyNovember 3, 2024

If it hurts traffic to porn sites I’m for it, but I still don’t like the men who do it for the reasons others have already shared

RNPhalaropeNovember 3, 2024

I had never heard of this and I thought you were suggesting I give up my one pie a year: Dark Chocolate Pecan at Thanksgiving.

Whew!

FastWaves [OP]November 3, 2024

Heck no! And now I want pie. 😂

ReliquiaNovember 3, 2024

I guess I'm not against it? I'm not really in favour either. If it stops a handful of men from watching porn for a few weeks, it's better than nothing, but I doubt it has any long lasting effects

Iota_AurigaeNovember 3, 2024

I don’t really care, frankly it seems more like a meme.

RadisheNovember 2, 2024

I don't know why they want to talk about it so much if that's what they're doing.

Hedge_WitcherooNovember 3, 2024

I'm curious if the rates of abuse from men increase in November among the guys that do this. Men aren't great at handling pent up sexual frustration (or anything) to begin with.

Imo encouraging less porn and a healthier take on masterbation (doing it in moderation) would have better long term results.

worried19November 3, 2024

If they want to do it, good for them. It wouldn't appeal to me personally.

FutureBreedMachineNovember 3, 2024

Men are weak willed and embarrassing.

SadeyedladyNovember 2, 2024

They don’t actually do it
