I was just thinking earlier today... Remember how there used to be all this hubbub about "welfare queens" who were abusing the welfare system and just having babies right and left because they didn't have to financially support them, the taxpayers were footing the bill?
I was thinking how this flies in the face of some of the "people just don't value families and children anymore" and "it's because marriage rates are down and people are so misandrist" and whatnot. Like if the welfare queen myth were true, doesn't it indicate that if women can afford it, they don't mind having babies? I know it's just a racialized stereotype pushed by conservative propaganda, but if they believe it then why aren't they suggesting something similar to get women having babies?
I think the other reason I've been thinking about this is because I've been thinking a lot about what women's liberation could look like if we couldn't achieve separatism, and what nature could have intended (in my head canon). What if men and women just lived separate lives until the woman was fertile and wanted to mate so she found a male who earned the opportunity, and then they did, and she was fully capable of raising the resulting child with her fellow women because society was structured in such a way that she could? What if there was enough social support and we didn't have to find a decent male to partner with longterm, would women choose to have children more often than current birth rates indicate? Maybe men have prostates so they could live with their fellow men and be happy until a female deemed them worthy of mating 😂 idk my shower thoughts get way out there sometimes.
I'm only half serious, it's all just stuff that's been buzzing around my brain that I don't have anyone in my life with whom to talk about it.
