Are there any other birdwatchers on board? Also other nature-nerds are welcome to join the discussion! I’ve occasionally stumbled upon great bird/nature pictures here and wanted to start a whole discussion about it.
I absolutely love birdwatching. I am fascinated and in awe by birds themselves, and it has brought me a lot of joy in various ways. Of course, there’s always the excitement of encountering new or rarely seen birds, and I love observing them and learning about them. In addition, I get to go to different places and enjoy the nature, I have learned to be very present and mindful of my environment, I have learned a lot about ecology, I have become active in local environmental groups and volunteer a lot for that, and I have made new friends.
In my area, there is a total of about 250 nesting birds in the whole country, and more than 200 occasional wonderers have been met, so even if it’s not the greatest bird paradise in the world, there are still plenty of opportunities to engage in birding. The birdwatching culture here is very male-oriented, and in local groups it can be difficult to join in as a woman, and women often have to struggle to get taken seriously when sharing their observations. I’ve understood this is not exceptional.
Please share your stories about anything related to birds! Maybe you’re an active birder, or have a feeder at your backyard, or have enjoyed encountering them in the nature on other occasions – I don’t care, just share.
"Don't kink shame John Money!!!"
I looked up his other comics and this is like the one sane comic he made.
Yep. We read many books.
