Just want to second the importance of getting the morning after pill and STD prevention pills. This is a great description of the experience, and I can't say enough good things about the victim advocates and others who do this work.

Semantic quibble: I don't like the word "get" in this context. It's not something you "get". You can get drunk, get a haircut, get excited. You have agency in these events. I know it's commonly used in this way, but I think there's a difference between saying "I got raped" and "I was raped".

Thank you for this, and for your work supporting women who have experienced trauma. I appreciate you.

Thanks! If you want to help, too, please check out my posts at o/activism for more info on two ways you can volunteer

This is AMAZING! I am sharing widely!

RadicalRamblingsNovember 3, 2021

sharing this link in the comments, i hope that's okay, it's about the same thing but in Canada. Apparently they're called SAEKs here; "Everything You Need to Know About Sexual Assault Evidence Kits": https://www.missinformed.ca/post/everything-you-need-to-know-about-saeks

This is so informative and helpful. Thank you. I wish I had a woman like you around when I was raped.

sconsolatoNovember 3, 2021

I am so damn glad that this post is what it is, and not what I thought it was. Whew, Thank you for this information ♥️

Redmagethehotline.orgNovember 3, 2021

Oh crap. I didn't even think of that for the naming. It's pretty obvious in hindsight. Sorry

bumpyjerboaNovember 3, 2021

Can you still edit the title and perhaps put it in quotes? I came here super worried about you, which is completely fine, but I worry someone else may not click for similar reasons.

Redmagethehotline.orgNovember 3, 2021

When I hit edit, it didn't let me change the title. But I did add a note at the top.

womenopausalNovember 4, 2021

There's a time limit on when you can edit post titles, sorry. We can't do it either.

Carrots90November 3, 2021

I thought so too. Great post tho. Glad I clicked

Carrots90November 3, 2021

This is great. Glad it’s here. Thank you for all you do

My experience was in 2000. I felt kinda judged or not believed tbh

I was so people pleasing back then. I was trying to be nice and make everyone comfortable. Like to the sane assistant ‘oh wow, you speak Spanish. That must be so helpful here’ etc I was also still drunk lol. Maybe it made me seem insincere or like I was exaggerating. I wanted to believe it wasn’t a big deal but was afraid if I didn’t do the exam if regret it.

I wonder if I came off as Not being a ‘good or correct’ victim

I feel like the education on how women cope after is much better now

What are some of the ranges of emotions you’ve seen, if I may ask?

RadicalRamblingsNovember 3, 2021

this is really beautiful and really valuable information. i am canadian and i am just assuming this is american-based? would this information apply to all areas of the usa? could you offer any insight to this?

Redmagethehotline.orgNovember 3, 2021

Next up, I will write on how to get a "restraining order", more properly called a TPO. My writing on this series has been extremely sporatic, I apologize. I hope to have it done sooner, but maybe by the end of next week.

boogeritaNovember 3, 2021

We should have a resource circle for your informative posts and others like them.

FrontalaubeNovember 3, 2021

Email me if you want to collab. I've done this for myself and other women who don't speak English as a first language. There are some bizarre hurdles.

Does anyone know what the equivalent of the SANE clinic is in other jurisdictions than the USA?

A lot of what you’ve said is good general advice for any woman anywhere, but it would be useful to know, about the more specific elements, what the procedure is in, say, the UK.

[Deleted]November 3, 2021

I don't know if this it what you are looking for, reporting and what happens after in the UK.

Redmagethehotline.orgNovember 3, 2021

I would be flabbergasted if they didn't have this in the UK. The colloquial name for it is "rape kit". You're right that it probably isn't called SANE. I bet if you asked a SA center or police how to get a "rape kit" they'd know just what you meant.

BlackCirce🔮 🐖 🐖 🐖 🐖November 3, 2021

Thank you for your service to women. You probably don’t get thanked enough for this, but it’s really important

Redmagethehotline.orgNovember 3, 2021

IMHO I get thanked too much. It's not like I prevented the rape or that I was able to heal the PTSD.

But, even just being there is important and it's something lots of people could do. If you're interested in helping SA victims, please check out my post on /o/activism about what it's like to help with a SANE exam. :)

May every woman who reads this never need it, or if she does, may the subhuman male be prosecuted to the fullest extent, and may she heal quickly, inside and out.

Having said that, having needed to help more than one woman in this situation, this is well done, and ever so appreciated.

RadicalRamblingsNovember 4, 2021

Can I read this post as a video on my youtube channel?

Redmagethehotline.orgNovember 4, 2021

Sure but only if you send me the link. :)

The big thing to hit home is that all of these are options. You don't have to call 911 but you can. You don't have to get a SANE exam but you can. You can partially do these things.

RadicalRamblingsNovember 4, 2021

absolutely!

I do a series of reading women's essays, twitter threads, etc. I just read what's written and give credit to the OP and link to the OP always! this is my channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/RadicalRamblings/videos

i will record it later today sometime likely and upload it probably in a week or two (I only do one video a week and I have two in the shoot already lol)

cranberrysaladNovember 4, 2021

Thank you for this!!

[Deleted]November 4, 2021

This is invaluable information. Could anyone still active on reddit repost this on FDS? They have an evergrowing following and tight enough moderation not to let a single "not all men" comment pass through. As many as possible women need to read this.

Redmagethehotline.orgNovember 4, 2021

If someone does, please edit the title. I'm embarrassed. Should be something like "Guide: Options after being raped".
