2 parody songs to lift your spirit

There are only losers in a tariff war and we’re going to need to keep our spirits lifted while we resist Trump’s annexation threats. It’s going to be a brutal 4 years (or longer).

Do not sink into depression as the economy is hit. We’re going to suffer terribly but as long as we stay united, we will get through the hard times. Don’t let hopelessness win. Trump is betting on that. I hope these songs help strengthen your resolve.

We are a resilient people. May these songs remind you of that when you feel like giving up.

We Will Survive

The song writer, Gore Moran who was a high school teacher, unfortunately passed away before the production of the song was completed. His son posted the song. The singer, Sonya Zaback, did a fantastic job with the vocals. I couldn’t believe my ears. I hope it’s heard across all of Canada.

MAGA Man (A Neil Young Parody - Canada Ain't Your 51st State)

No credit info. The song has short news clips interspersed within the parody lyrics to remind you what we’re fighting for.

Lastly, to our American friends: good luck. We’re hoping you succeed in getting your convicted felon out of office.

A word on the future

There’s a lot to criticize (our Canadian and foreign government too) in how we got here, but in the interest of keeping this post about hope, I’m saving my grievances for another post. All I can hope for is that our government learns a lesson from this and changes its attitude in the long term in how our provinces and country are run.

I hope our citizens remember these times and we support any actions our government takes (cross my fingers) to improve interprovincial trading and become independent from the USA in our energy sector (our pipes connecting Alberta to the Eastern provinces run through USA first, among other things like we don’t have enough oil refineries to process our own crude oil).

When the hard times appear to be over, please remember that a country’s security depends on how well we prepare for the worst. If we don’t fix our energy vulnerabilities, we would be stupid. Do not forget what has transpired this year. Do not for one second believe that Trump and Musk are acting all alone.

Do not get complacent with pressuring our governments (Federal and provincial) to secure our economic independence when the US has a swing vote next term to the Democrats. They can elect another Trump the down the line, a more cunning one (which isn’t all that hard considering how low Trump sets the bar). I don’t for one second believe that the Republicans couldn’t find a better candidate than Trump. Who knows how many of the USA officials are captured by oligarchs and Putin.

We must not stay naive. Trump has already threatened military action on Greenland. If congress was functioning properly, they would have kicked Trump out when he started voicing his expansionist dreams as a leader of a powerful country that has signed world agreements to not move political borders. It means that they either can’t (threatened) or won’t (in league) take action to kick him out.

So never forget. If we do, we will become what Ukraine is to Russia.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I’m going to stop here because I don’t want to write a dissertation on everything that has transpired. I want this post to be about staying strong now and vigilant for the future. Keep pressuring our elected leaders to secure Canada’s economic future. We should never be so vulnerable again to the whims of another country.

However, I will continue to hold hope in my heart that the USA people will rise up and end his reign of terror long before the four years are up.

Honestly I've never felt Canada this unified before. Quebec is booing things patriotically. Coast to Coast to Coast we're stepping up to meet the moment and it's been so impressive to see.

It's showing off a real ugly side of our neighbours, I'll admit, but every time my elected officials step up lately I'm so proud to have them on my side, you know? Like I know we disagree with some of Trudeau's decisions but when he said retaliatory tariffs, did you think he'd use that money for tax cuts for the rich or did you think he'd use it for social supports?

Anyway, thanks for posting the links. Really great to see some pro-Canada content around here lately.

Trudeau is at his best right now. And it's awesome to see the premiers all working together.

Thank you 💕🇨🇦 I needed to hear those songs.

Thank you! It’s scary times here!

I remember the days when I thought he was just saying this for attention and now look where we are!

Does this mean we can’t sing Blame Canada anymore?

CathyVerattiMarch 7, 2025(Edited March 7, 2025)

Times have changed
The Yanks are getting worse
They won’t respect their allies
They just snipe about their shirts

Should we blame their media?
Or blame the GOP?
Or should we blame Trump’s issues with his pappy?

No!

Blame America, blame America!
They’re not even the whole continent anyway!

As an American, I just want to say that I really don't feel or see any animousity to Canada from normal people. We don't always agree politically on things, but we love our northern neighbors and support your sovereignty.

Here's a nice link I found of a live show for one of my favorite bands, who happen to be Canadian! On their recent tour in the US, they had the Northwest Passage song in their set. From what I understand, it's like an unofficial Canadian anthem song. In the link (not mine) you can hear and see pretty much the whole American crowd participating and singing along with the band. I wasn't at this specific show, but I also sang it along at other recent shows of theirs I've seen. We stand together with Canada. 💖🇨🇦

I have plenty of USian friends that aren't idiots, but apparently you aren't the majority. So, while we don't hate you guys on an individual level, we do hate your country right now. Sorry.

MaleniaMarch 7, 2025

That's fair! A lot of us hate it right now too.

EstelleMarch 7, 2025

But not that sorry, really.

That parody of I Will Survive was awesome! Thank you so much for posting these 😊 Have you seen the new "I Am Canadian" video?

I loved it!

See, these days I've got Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie's "War of 1812" on repeat with The Arrogant Worms "History is Made by Stupid People"

If we wanted this to end with Trump gutted like a fish we could always bring Jean Chretien out of retirement, and give him his pick of Inuit statuary.

hard_headed_womanMarch 7, 2025

Trump is trolling. No way will the republicans ever add two more dem senators and more dem representatives.

Yeah, Trump is shit stirring and up to something, but it's definitely not about bringing in another state.

EstelleMarch 7, 2025

Correct, they don't want us as a state. They want us as an occupied territory with no rights so they can take our natural resources and have access to newly opened Arctic shipping routes.

hard_headed_womanMarch 7, 2025

That.is.not.going.to.happen.

EstelleMarch 7, 2025

🤷‍♀️ Whatever you say. We're still gonna prepare though. Some of us don't think it's super cool for the leader of a country that wields massive power and influence to just say whatever the fuck it wants and call it trolling.

It happened to Puerto Rico, it could happen again
