RantThe YouTube filter is making it impossible to fight anti-Canadian propaganda
Posted March 11, 2025 by Maplefields in Women

It’s not just political channels. YT has been blocking my comments for the most banal things. I never know when my comment will be allowed. My account is over 11 years old. That’s a pretty easy indicator for YT to check that it’s not a bot account.

If YouTube can’t get their filter to work right, they should turn it off. What idiot ceo decided to leave an extra-beta version of a program or AI to police YouTube by trying to reason something as complicated as human conversation?

I’d rather see the scam bot comments and have people report them manually to have them removed than to have a dumb AI try to sort people from bots. It will never be able to beat a human brain. Human communication isn’t a math equation or an algorithm to be solved. It’s dynamic and always evolving.

These MAGAs flock to anything pro-Canadian: shorts of our MPs, podcast type channels, CNN, or MNBC (sorry, I think I butchered that one, but it’s the other mainstream channel).

They leave comments quoting 250% (and other insane tariff rates) that paint Canada as a bad guy, the unfair trading partner taking advantage of USA. (I know where this story goes. Today, it’s a bad trade partner. Tomorrow, the lie becomes even more nefarious.)

YouTube’s crappy filter system doesn’t let you reply to them. I wanted to leave proof directly from the US 🇺🇸 government website contradicting everything 🍊 Mussolini is saying. (I’ve even tried by just leaving the name of the website, not the link). It takes 3 sentences to direct them to the US 🇺🇸 trade website and how to use it.

I’m not delusional in thinking half of them won’t find some other excuse to stay on the anti-Canada wagon (because their holy 🍊💩 couldn’t possibly be lying to them on purpose), but anyone that clicks the comment would have seen the rebuttal in the reply.

And when you try to leave a comment on the main comments page (not replying to anyone), IT STILL gets blocked.

I’ve only tried replying to two people on separate videos.

And it’s not like I spammed the comments section trying to repost the same reply. Every variation gets deleted (I’ve tried 3 variations). Every attempt to try to fool the AI.

Seriously.

It was annoying (*) for it to happen when I’m trying to engage in sewing, craft, or fashion channels.

However, it’s downright infuriating when it’s preventing you from fighting propaganda that’s being used to condition the people to see you as the enemy. Today it’s unfair trade deals. What kind of lie will he spin tomorrow?

My only recourse is to just report them as misinformation to YT.

However, I believe sunlight is the best disinfectant. Leaving them unaddressed just allows those ideas to fester.

I don’t have time to start a YT channel and make and edit videos. I had to make a 7 minute video once for my uni presentation, and that bugger took hours to edit (cropping and splitting my voiceover recording, compiling the presentation slides…)

Damn you, Google. YouTube worked as intended before you acquired it. I hate corporations. They destroy everything.

(*) A year ago, I already jumped through YouTube’s link hoops through community help (or whatever it was) to message YT to report the issue. Of course I knew they’d likely do nothing to fix it.
