DiscussionWhat is your relationship to fashion and how would you describe your personal style?
Posted March 13, 2025 by notsofreshfeeling in Women

Right now, I am dealing with family and personal health issues (again) and find myself fantasizing that, if I don't have time for much else, maybe at least I could pull of a style or feel good about what I am wearing day to day as I navigate this latest ordeal. I'm in my late 40s now and have never spent a lot of time or money on fashion, and generally wear leggings or sweats most of the time because they're comfortable and I'm usually home alone. I shop online when I buy clothes because we have slim pickings where I live. I have admired and occasionally envied people who understand which silhouettes suit their body type while also having a stylistic flourish that shows they value and love themselves enough to make the effort.

I have had so many interruptions in my life, worrying over and caring for members of my family who struggle with poverty, addiction, and other mental and physical health issues, in addition to my own bouts of deep depression and possibly ADHD. These interruptions and struggles have lowered my self esteem and I tend to be skeptical of any of my own dreams or ideas.

I am worried that I might be headed for another deep depression. So, I suppose I've just been thinking about battle armor in a sense, and how style could be one way of regaining a sliver of agency.

I'm just curious to hear about your own relationship to fashion and personal style, and whether your attire reflects something about your personality, whether it's an extension of some deeper aesthetic that you have, etc., as well as it's psychological effects on you.

Edit: Thank you all for your comments on this! I love reading these little tidbits about you and imaging your looks. I won't have time to reply to each comment today but appreciate the feedback and inspiration.

I really hope they make good with this expansion. The preview video actually managed to hype me up! I love the idea of graveyards for my generational stories. And the reaper job might be interesting.

I just hope it isn't an unworkable mess at launch. They told us no sims 5 so quality should be a priority right? T_T

They’re releasing the EP patch on Tuesday and they finally gave modders access to code ahead of time, so I think there’s a really good chance everything is working by Halloween!

Oh wow that's awesome news! Mods are the lifeblood of the sims for me xD

Imo 4 actually does a great job on occults, so I ended up preordering the pack. Apparently the devs who were leads for Werewolves are also leads for this pack, so I’m really excited!

It's weird, because it sounds like an expansion that should be right up my alley, but ever since they announced that there won't be a sims 5, and that we're instead going to be stuck playing sims 4 in all it's buggy glory forever, I've lost all interest in the game.

They did?? But Sims 4 is so lousy ☹️

It was never that great and has continued to age poorly. They also announced that Project Renee is some awful multiplayer mobile game.

FeminaOctober 18, 2024

Project Rene will have single player too apparently... : https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Project_Rene

Ok, but I’ve been playing as the reaper since the original Rollercoaster Tycoon lol.

FeminaOctober 18, 2024

Huh? XD

Creatively killing guests was a big thing with RCT 1 and 2. Unfortunately, they removed the ability to do so with RCT 3.

sunshine_punkOctober 19, 2024

What? You can't do that in 3? Talk about not knowing their audience, lol.

faerieberryOctober 19, 2024

Oh my god I had forgotten about that! My siblings and I used to make the most dangerous roller coasters possible, to see how many park guests we could kill at once 😂

FeminaOctober 19, 2024

I see... I think I may have played that game once...

But anyway I don't think we will be killing Sims with the Reaper... Just collecting the souls of the Sims that have died and guiding them to the afterlife and stuff...

EA's site said that part of the Reaper's job is to handle disputes between ghosts and other issues that the spirits of the dead may have...
