This is a general interest discussion community for women. Women can discuss most topics here. Rants, raves, interesting links, career advice, relationship advice, hobbies, interests, chit chat, pet pics, as long as you're a woman and it's not disallowed below it's all free to go here.
Our goal is to provide a friendly and supportive space for the women of Ovarit. This circle is not a "safe space," but it is and will always be a female-only space. This means if you are not female, you will be banned.
This circle is not for general politics or election topics - arguments about politics do not fit within this circle’s mission. This is not a debate circle.
Before posting, please check the list below of other women-only circles to make sure there isn't a community that is dedicated to the topic. Also, please use the feminist circles for feminist topics, such as /o/WomensLiberation and /o/GenderCritical. Posts about male violence belong in /o/NameTheProblem. This circle is not for news about violence.
If any part of your text / link post is about trans, post it to o/GenderCritical. Trans related image posts go in o/TransLogic or o/Radfemmery.
If you post about trans topics in o/Women your post may be locked and / or deleted. We cannot move posts around.
This is a friendly and supportive community for general topics which are not contentious. Posts which start arguments, or which devolve into arguments in the comments, are extremely likely to be removed. This is a friendly and supportive general chat community, not a debate or argument board.
Examples of topics which belong here:
- Rants, raves, advice seeking, or discussions about your relationships, jobs, family, pets, hobbies, travels, etc.
- Links to random media like music, or funny, silly, or uplifting things like alpaca videos.
- Links to various news or articles which don’t fit in other circles and are not about violence, male depravity, the oppression of women, and contentious topics including politics which either belong in other circles or do not lend themselves to friendly, supportive discussion in an ideologically diverse community.

This is a really surreal experience for me. I remember the first time I was ever in the US and happened to come across Tucker Carlson on TV, I could not watch him for more than a few minutes. He enraged me that much. I never would have thought that I could find him likable at all....ever. But here I am, and it's not the first time either. I have enjoyed his interviews with Kara Dansky just as much.
And yes, I'm sure he has some other agenda attached to this, one I wouldn't necessarily agree with. But at the same time he seems very genuine in his respect for Helena in this and also for Kara in the multiple interviews he did with her.
That's where we are right now, who would have thought.
This really has emphasized to me that society needs to be careful about categorizing groups of humans as either all evil or good, black or white.
The reality is people are complex, they can both hold good and bad positions and ideas at the same time. It’s all shades of grey, and we need to be careful to not demonize and dehumanize those who we may view as politically opposed to us.
Helena is a conventionally feminine and attractive woman who plays into the gender roles that Tucker approves of. He uses her for his own motives. Do you think he would platform a GNC lesbian in the same way? He doesn't stop being a misogynistic asshole just because he managed to be nice to a woman for 5 minutes on video
I've never seen him be misogynistic, as far as I can remember. And I've watched a lot of Tucker Carlson. I think this is only in your head, but I'm open to examples of Carlon's misogyny.

Yup, that's bad. It is from 2006 to 2010, but I can't deny that it is bad.
The TC I've seen on tv for the last couple of years never said anything like this (that's why I didn't know), but the fact that he said those things in the past is a reality that I will not forget. It's a disappointment.
Still, I do agree with many things he's saying these days on various topics.

You're absolutely right. One of the multiple things this gender ideology nonsense has taught me so far. I used to be way more "black and white" myself before.
Same. I'm a very different person from 3 years ago.
Hitler loved dogs, and the NSDAP (OG Nazi party) were fierce defenders of animal rights in general. Some of Germany's modern-day animal-rights statutes are still the ones introduced by the literal Nazis.
People can also be very good actors and liars.
I do agree we're complex though, and I believe at least 99% of us are actually political mosaics, not pure leftist or pure right-wing or 100% absolutely centrist. Everyone's got their blind spots, everyone's got those few places in their politics where they want to feel and not think. (And I don't mean the leftists.)
I for one am more than happy to USE his popularity and his program to spread a feminist message. We KNOW he's not our friend. That's why we need to USE him, not let him use us.
As long as we keep perspective, I see no problem with that.
His ilk don't understand feminism anyway other than "it maeks mai pp sad." I've lost count of how many times I've caught them referring to libfems as rAdiCaL fEmiNiStS.
