Mental health treatments
Posted March 2, 2022 by [Deleted] in WomensHealthLounge

Do any of them really work? None of the medications I've been on in the past 20+ years have been very effective. All of the therapists I've been to have told me different things and suggested different ways to fix my disordered thinking, some slightly effective, most not. Is it all my fault? Maybe I just need to try harder to get better.

*Imagine you're in a room with 400 people. 36 don't have health insurance. 85 live in poverty. 20 are illiterate . 90 have untreated mental illness. And every day, one person gets shot.

But two are trans and you decide that ruining their life is the priority.*

OK, let's. Here goes.

Of the 36 people with no medical insurance, there is one woman with breast cancer and one with an ovarian torsion. Using the limited resources available to people with no health insurance, they find that among the group and with some outside help they have the skills, medication and equipment to treat these two people. It's not much, but its a start for the most serious cases. But as the breast cancer sufferer is being wheeled into her life-saving surgery, the TIF starts wailing that her mastectomy is also life-saving and it's hateful and bigoted that this woman who will die is getting preference. Meanwhile, the TIM is screeching that if the woman getting the ovary removed can have gender affirming care, so can he. When she tries to explain how much pain she is in, he says he wishes every day that he had that much pain and she's a bigot for reminding him he will never feel it.

A few of the 85 who live in poverty and have no place to sleep at night, find out there is a way to access government guaranteed income in their city. They apply only to find out that these funds are set aside for trans people. Meanwhile others find out their children's school no longer offers lunches because the government said they had to let boys into girls restrooms and they refused. Their kids are hungry. One of the women nearly got a scholarship, set aside for women, to get into college because she is an excellent swimmer. She would have been the first member of her family to go. But then the TIM claimed he was a woman and took it away from her. She can't go to college now.

Some of the 20 who are illiterate thought it would help their children to attend a reading workshop at their local library only to find that it was run by a man in a G string and fake boobs, so they felt this was an unsafe place for them and their kids, so they left.

When they started talking to the 90 who had untreated mental illness, they found certain patterns emerged. A number of the women suffered from PTSD from domestic violence and sexual abuse. They tried to form a support group among themselves but the TIM insisted on coming along and listening to their stories of abuse. He got tired of listening after a while and just wanted to talk about his ladydick. When he insisted he should be in charge because only he has the unique female experience of being a transwomen, the group disbanded. Another group that emerged was that of gay men who had suffered from homophobia. The TIF insisted that the real homophobia was the fact that they wouldn't have sex with her. That group also disbanded.

The person that shoots someone every day was eventually stopped and arrested, much to the relief of all the people in the room. Despite having lived his whole life as a man, never once even showing the slightest hint of effeminate behaviour, he realised that if he claimed he was a woman, he could be sent to a women's prison. So he did. And he was. The female inmates live in terror and sleep in shifts.

I've decided that the trans people in the room are not the priority. They've decided this ruins their lives.

Shrug.

sohhApril 16, 2023

Yep. Also, their lives would be better if they’d STFU so we can spend more time addressing those other issues since TIPs exist within those groups mentioned (untreated mental illness, impoverished) anyway.

On top of that, I hate when people try to end an argument about a controversial issue by saying there are more important things to worry about. …as if it’s impossible to care about and work on multiple issues in society at the same time.

DurableBookApril 16, 2023

as if it’s impossible to care about and work on multiple issues in society at the same time.

Also that, yes. It seems to be a thinking pattern common to men and young children, who have never needed to (for instance) compose a grocery list while folding laundry, or answer a first grader's pressing question about dolphins while changing an infant's diaper, or budget for both the electric bill and also holiday presents.

Imagine you're in a room with 400 people. 400 of them are highly likely to have their lives ruined by climate change.

But two are trans and they want to make everything all about them.

That's what is happening right now.

VenusBlursedApril 16, 2023

I almost wonder if some do this to themselves as a reaction to climate change.

EternaEspiralevil latina lesbianApril 17, 2023

You also have to wonder how many of them already had their endocrine system all fucked up since they were children because of phtalates in the water or something.

TwoXChromosomesApril 16, 2023

200 of them are women, and you'd deny those 200 women the right to their own private spaces and physical safety so two of the 92 mentally ill people can feel "affirmed".

drdeeisbackKabbalist BarbieApril 16, 2023

'Imagine you're in a room...every day, one person gets shot, and two are trans.' And yet, you spend a disproportionate amount of time, money and attention on those two, without doing anything concrete or helpful for the other 398. Does that show a good sense of priorities? We/I am working on getting at least some attention paid to the 200 people in that room who are female.

gluhbirneApril 16, 2023

The priority is not "ruining the life" of two trans people.

The priority is the defense of shared reality. Without the ability to define what is true and what is false, or agree that material facts exist, we cannot solve ANY of the problems in that room.

VestalVirginApril 16, 2023(Edited April 16, 2023)

This is so idiotic that it cannot be "refuted".

No one cares about trans people and their shit. "ruining their lives" is not a priority to anyone.

They made it a priority to have superfluous surgery and make themselves lifelong medical patients and give themselves disabilities while there's much worse problems around.

They pushed through all their stupid self-ID trans laws instead of doing something about poverty, health insurance or illiteracy.

That's what's happening.

That governments have to waste time on removing stupid trans laws is a result of the fact that the TRAs decided catering to their idiocy and ruining women's lives was more important than any other political agenda of the Democrats.

They pretend their idiotic male supremacy laws have been there all the time, when in fact, they're very recent and were done instead of much, much, much more important things.

A more factual metaphor would be that you have a flat with 400 people, and the one TIM has tied up three of the women and is raping them in the kitchen, while the one TIF tries to convince everyone that there are more important things than going to the kitchen and preventing the TIM from raping women with his penis.

(The metaphor you quoted is shit anyways - how would people be "living in poverty" while in the same room with people who aren't poor? If there's no privacy, no loos and no showers in that room, everyone is living in poverty ...)

LadylucyApril 16, 2023

The room in question is meant to be an example of the percentage of people living in poverty, people with a mental illness, etc. in a particular city or country. The is no representation of how many people are not poor or rich. And, how do you know if there are no loos or showers? I suspect everyone goes home after they have been a part of a visual representation of a percentage.

KestrelApril 17, 2023

200 are women and girls and our priority is protecting them.

OvaritonionApril 16, 2023

Thank you all. It made me so angry my brain short circuited and i couldn't think straight. I was trying to think of what logical flaw it commits- "whataboutism" comes close

DeeApril 16, 2023

There's no one logical flaw. It's just word salad.

So many questions. Do the people who get shot sometimes survive? How often? If not, it will take just over a year until there's only one person left. There won't be time to replace the population, both because of time limits and because pregnant women will probably also be getting shot. I'd say taking care of the shooter(s) and removing guns is probably the priority here.

Or is this room a prison, and are the self-appointed authorities systematically shooting one person every day?

I'm annoying. I'd probably be asking questions like that if presented with this scenario.

[Deleted]April 16, 2023

I've decided MY rights are a priority and trans people are threatening them. They are causing harm to ME and all of the other women in the room.

ItsCalculatedApril 16, 2023

The better question is why are we focusing so much on just them when we should be helping everyone else.

notsofreshfeelingApril 16, 2023(Edited April 17, 2023)

Why are trans cultists trying to ruin the lives of women who want fair sports, safe single-sex spaces, the right to name reality, and the right to not have their speech compelled?

Why are those two trans people fine and dandy with male baby rapists reported as female in the news and recorded as female in crime stats? Why don't they care that this is unfair to actual females?

Why are those two trans people such warped, selfish assholes? Why don't those two trans people stop forcing every human around them to cater to their absolute fucking bullshit ideology? Why don't those two trans people either a) go heal their internalized homophobia and grow up, or, b) assuming one is a male AGP, FUCK RIGHT OFF.

OvaritonionApril 16, 2023

What's AGP? Kind of new here, recently peaked, just learning the acronyms

VestalVirginApril 16, 2023

AGP is autogynephile, that's the perverts who get off on dressing in (often stolen from actual women) women's clothes.

They're a pretty large percentage of modern TIMs, mostly hetero (aka "transbian"), and most keep their penis.

(Basically the opposite of the stereotype that TIMs are homosexual and all want to be castrated.)

DoomedSibylApril 17, 2023

Even the gay ones (known as HSTS {Homosexual Transsexual in Internet speak}) mostly don’t want to be castrated. Something like 96% of all TIM (Trans Identified Males I.e. males who claim to be female) aren’t castrated. I don’t blame them. I’m not a fan of sexual mutilation.

That said, the biggest group having mutilating cosmetic surgeries that often leave them some form of disabled and always leave them sterile and sexually non functional are very young people. Often minors. The biggest part of that group is teenage girls. It has been suggested that there are elements of eugenics and elements of creating a lifelong child sex slave for pedophiles in all of this. Among many other very disturbing hypotheses. Like getting people to ignore or suppress their instincts at the approach of a predator or their instinct to automatically and unconsciously sex other people.

Apologies, I only meant to define the acronyms for you but kept going. Oh and the confusing language? A feature not a bug. It puts people in cognitive dissonance.

DietCokeAddictApril 16, 2023

What is “ruining their life”?

Banning highly experimental (at best) hormones for children? Protecting women’s rights to female-only sports and other spaces? Not letting people lie about their sex on legal documents?

I can’t think of anything else governments are doing to trans people - those things protect all 400 people, if they “ruin the lives” of two people too bad, those 2 need to find a different solution for their problems.

GenXerApril 16, 2023

And half of those individuals are vulnerable women and girls. We're fighting FOR them, not AGINST the TIMs.

The TIMs believe that everything revolves around them and their male needs.

MaryDyerApril 16, 2023

I think it would be more accurate to say that 92 have untreated mental illness, not 90.

AlectoApril 16, 2023

This isn't what you're looking for but this is a bad faith statistical representation of the US. There's no indication of overlap between the various disadvantaged groups. If every day 0.25% of the population gets shot, there will be no more population in less than two years. Gun violence is a large problem in this country, but it's not that big of a problem.

goatsauceApril 16, 2023

It's been awhile since I did math on the regular, but these stats make no sense as far as I can calculate. If you have 400 people and one gets shot, then you've lost .25% of that population daily. If two of the people in this room are trans, then they make up .5% of the population.

Every day, approximately 320 people are shot in the US. The US population is approximately 334,633,00 people. We are not losing .25% of the population to gun violence every day and .5% of the population isn't trans. Whoever came up with this isn't using good faith actual statistics, they're just making it up to make their point.

Well this is flawed. First, if you aren't an activist how does he know that trans people are "your priority" for all and I know you have your own live, with your own goals and motivations so trans people are never your priority.

If you are indeed an activist, do you only fight for TERF causes? because it is unlikely. If you are some kind of activist I am sure you have other things in mind, helping women in general, ending sexual crime, etc.

If you are an activist that only fites TERF causes, at the end you are free to chose your cause. I don't understand animal activists, while there is humans in danger I'll always prioritse them above animals, yet I can respect that some people would chose the cause of animal rights, in the end this means we have more causes covered. You do activism for what you belive, no need to help all the causes in the world.

blueshrimp32April 16, 2023

Easy. 200 of those 400 people are women, and the two trans ones want to destroy their hard-won sex-based protections.

BJ581April 16, 2023(Edited April 16, 2023)

Why must women always be put last? I thought injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere? There’s also the false statement of of “ruining people’s lives” as a priority. That’s not the priority. The priority is that 51% of that room is likely to be women, and their rights matter. Why should two people get to ruin the lives of 51% of those people and why wouldn’t that be worth addressing? There’s always a reason why women's rights aren’t supposed to matter. “Do you really need to worry about voting right now? People are starving, there’s famine and poverty.” “Do you really think women owning property is the most important thing? People are dying in wars.” “Do you think the wage gap should be your priority while there’s a housing crisis?” “Do you really think domestic violence is the most important thing while school shootings hit an all time high?”

Do we need to live in a perfect utopia before we’re allowed to discuss women’s issues? We must always stand aside and wait our turn? Why do two people in the room get to be the priority but not the 200 that are female? You haven’t changed my priorities, you’ve only revealed yours.

CharieCApril 16, 2023

It's not ruining any lives to politely suggest that, just like the other 88, those 2 need their mental illness treated.

hellamomzillaApril 16, 2023

Or, you’ve just made up a completely non-sensical thought experiment to distract from discussing the ACTUAL ISSUES for women and children that that tiny percentage of people insisting on super-special privileges is causing.

Thought experiments are stupid when the actual reality is right there and actual people are trying to discuss the actual reality while you lot just keep moving the goalposts.

nopointdenyingitnowscroteApril 16, 2023

When I was a kid, my brother argued like this every day. It was so bad that if my brother got angry and I didn't, then he would "retaliate" by getting angrier. It's very strange. "Eureka, the answer is obvious: The room is a women's bathroom, and the ones shooting everybody are the two men!"

ArmyofMeApril 16, 2023

Who are “you” in this thought experiment exactly? Are you in charge of this? Or are you just another schmuck trying to live. Who is killing them? Is it you? It doesn’t make sense.

MamaGeeApril 16, 2023

Who decided that trans people's priorities should trump everyone else's? And who decided that NOT allowing them to trump everyone else's needs in allocation of care resources was ruining their lives as some kind of targeted campaign. Not catering to them is not the same freaking thing as targeting them.

fightlikeagirlApril 16, 2023

Also, hear me out, many of us are activists for several of these other issues, just not the one that infringes on our rights.

How many TIMs are out here protecting the right to legal abortion, again?

ProxyMusicApril 16, 2023(Edited April 16, 2023)

Imagine you're in a room with 400 people.

I'd ask how many female people are in that room. I'd also ask how many of those people are same-sex attracted.

My hunch is the person whose post you're speaking about is someone who doesn't think female people count, doesn't believe our rights matter, and doesn't care one bit about the lives of girls and men being ruined by trans ideology and abusive, intrusive TIPs, particularly the male ones.

My hunch is that the person you're quoting also doesnt support sex-based rights for people who are same-sex attracted.

Also: two men who claim to be women placed in a women's prison can ruin the lives of ALL the female inmates in the prison by intimidating, menacing, threatening, bossing around, ogling, leering at, perving on, assaulting, pushing around, raping and impregnating just some of the women in the prison.

Two men who claim to be women entreing a women's sporting competition can ruin it for ALL the female participants - and for the specators and fans too.

Two men who who claim to be women placed as residents in a women's nursing/care home or ward can ruin the lives of all the elderly, infirm, disabled, bedridden, physically vulnerable women residing there just by their intimimidating, unnerving MALE presence.

Two men who claim to be women entering a women's restroom, locker room or changing room automatically make those places uncomfortable, inhospitable and unsafe for the large majority of female people - and also make those places totally unusuable by many girls and women too, such as those who are observant Muslims and orthodox Jews.

Also: if the two trans people in the room are male, chances are good that they are both incredibily sexist and misogynistic autogynephilic sexual fetishists who abuse, or fantasize about abusing, girls and women and do so because it gets them sexually aroused.

Finally: how exactly does other people's not believing in gender ideology and the pretend "gender identities" of TIPs "ruin their lives"? Billions of people don't believe in Roman Catholicism, and billions don't believe in Islam, either, but no one says that failing to believe in those faiths is ruining the lives of Catholics and Muslims.

Coda: most of my neighbors and many of my friends and family don't share my views on lots of things - and I am sure none of them see me exactly as I see myself. Most of them probably don't regard and speak about me in the extremely flattering ways I wish they would. But none of them are ruining my life by doing so.

girl_undoneApril 16, 2023

Are they shooting the same person every day or are 90% of the people going to get shot this year?

AlectoApril 16, 2023

No, they alternate between the two trans people.

vulvapeopleApril 17, 2023

"And this is why women should give TIMs whatever they want."

vulvapeopleApril 17, 2023(Edited April 17, 2023)

I've said it before, but I unironically think fighting trans politics is the most important cultural issue in the U.S. right now.

36 don't have health insurance.

Governments and institutions are trying to force patients to accept opposite-sex care if the carer identifies as something they're not. They're also wasting billions on unnecessary and debilitating treatments for TIPs.

85 live in poverty.

Governments and institutions are also trying to use "transphobia" as an excuse to deny help to the poor and vulnerable, such as women threatened with expulsion from homeless shelters when they complain about a TIM's conduct (and that's not getting into how trans "inclusion" scares women away from the resources set up for us).

20 are illiterate.

Meanwhile, schools are teaching the genderbread person while Gen Alpha struggles to read. "Progressives" are also using the same moving of goalposts and twisting of politics/language that TRAs employ to handwave their own failures away. "Other ways of knowing" aligns very easily with the redefinition of reality that TRAs attempt every day.

90 have untreated mental illness.

Like TIPs who don't receive adequate mental health care because that's "conversion therapy"? Trans politics is closely coupled with the push to normalize mental illness to the point that it becomes impossible to treat someone for any reason.

[Deleted]April 16, 2023(Edited April 16, 2023)

Imagine you're in a room with 400 people. 36 don't have health insurance. 85 live in poverty. 20 are illiterate. 90 have untreated mental illness. And every day, one person gets shot.

But two are males that say they're women and you decide that forcing females to accept them into their sports, bathrooms, changing rooms, rape shelters, prisons and allowing them to receive awards meant for females is the priority.

That's what's happening right now.

Also, why do they automatically assume we aren't concerned about those other things as well? Those problems are much more complicated and difficult to solve, whereas recognizing that TIMs are male, it's impossible to change sex, and sex is important in the law instantly solves many of the injustices currently being committed against women.

Banning cosmetic surgery and non-medical, completely unnecessary drug "treatments" which are entirely unethical, from being performed on homosexual and mentally ill children also seems like a pretty big human rights issue to me.

FeministunderyrbedApril 16, 2023(Edited April 16, 2023)

I’ve seen “Why do you care so much about this!” in online discussions as a last resort when they‘re all out of arguments. https://open.substack.com/pub/jessesingal/p/why-do-you-write-about-this-rather

wildclovrApril 16, 2023

It's a bit of a reversal, isn't it. First they wail and wail about this and are fully willing to go rabid on you if you voice one single squeak of disagreement. Then, somehow you're the one who "cares so much about this!", LOL

wildclovrApril 16, 2023

This is a very U.S. centric sort of post, isn't it.

Also, hate to say it, but my first question would be, do they all die when they get shot, or are there some survivors?

RawSiennaApril 16, 2023

Child safeguarding isn’t hate. Protecting women in law isn’t hate.

Ask why the 2 trans people want to debase (uterus havers! menstruators!), and destroy (sports, rape crisis centres, change rooms, lactation societies, prisons, statistics/data collection, etc) the rights of 50% of the population.

notsofreshfeelingApril 16, 2023(Edited April 16, 2023)

If I were an atheist living under a authoritarian theocratic regime that attempted to compel religious statements, such as, "Jesus is my Lord and Savior," "Ganesha is my god," or "trans women are women"--compelled under threat of being fired or losing social status--I would say the atheist is the one who's life is being ruined.

[Deleted]April 16, 2023

This scenario is so mind numbingly stupid due to the incredible lack of information. Why are these people being shot? Is this supposed to make me think that shooting poor/illiterate/uninsured people is somehow more preferable to shooting a trans person lol? Im so perplexed as to what the analogy here is supposed to be. Other than being in disadvantaged positions, how do these things even correlate at all? It's all just a word salad of buzzwords.
