Oh Jesus H Christ in a Chickenbasket another perimenopausal symptom to enjoy!
I don't think this applies to all women...?? I'm in my 60s now, not having these terrible symptoms of dryness...
I had this terribly after one of my babies was born. The replens suppositories helped immensely.
Shouldn't the term be vulval or labial dryness? They're not talking about the vagina in this article, but the external genitalia.
It seems to be the overall area though?
We need better treatment and recognition of this for women at a younger age. It's honestly the first time I've really heard about it and how severe it can be. I was aware that as you get older, you may need some lube for intercourse after menopause, but nothing like this. Despite:
vaginal dryness will probably affect between 60% and 80% of women, according to various studies
I like to think I keep across health matters but I feel really ignorant here.
Often it's both, but the excruciating part is the vulva (unless you're trying to have sex, in which case it's all terrible).
That's exactly what I thought - being unable to work because of the pain says labia, to me. I'm extremely grateful that mine isn't bad at all and since I don't have sexual intercourse, that isn't an issue.
I have vaginal dryness (triggered by the pill, somewhat recovered, then re-triggered by birth and breastfeeding) and it really is just the vagina. When I was more newly postpartum the itching and stinging came from my underwear rubbing my labia minora, the inside of which was dry.
It is confusing, if they're not talking about vaginal secretions? They can't just use moisturizer on the vulva, which hasn't got any weird perfumes in it? Maybe the soap they're using is too drying?
"The genitourinary syndrome of menopause (vaginal atrophy or atrophic vaginitis) frequently affects women transitioning to menopause. It’s a condition where the lining of your vagina gets drier and thinner from a lack of estrogen. Burning, itching, spotting and pain with sex are common symptoms, as are frequent urination and urinary tract infections."
Divorce fixed mine, YMMV
