I get UTIs fairly often, but haven’t had one in years. One time having sex with my husband without immediately peeing afterwards, and I’m stuck in UTI hell. My doctor just called in a round of macrobid.
Being a woman comes with so much bullshit that men never even have to think about.
But sure brad, you’re a women because you get off on spinny dresses 🙄
You have my sympathies.
I used to get them all the time with my ex-boyfriend although my hygiene was impeccable and I always made sure to pee after sex. 3 years together and by the end I was taking a micro-dose of antibiotics every single day. My doctor never thought to have him checked...
In the end I'm pretty sure he must have had a hygiene issue or lingering bacteria because I've never had a UTI with my current boyfriend (4 years and counting).
And one of my friends also had UTIs regularly with her male sexual partner and her doctor had her bring him, he tested him for the bacteria and sure enough, it was in his system. No impact on him for some reason?? He did a few rounds of antibiotics and then all was well for them.
I had this as well! Ended up on a microdose of antibiotics whilst dating an ex and found splitting from him cured my uti and never had it return with anyone else. I always joke it was an allergy to him!
My husband has a skin condition and I do wonder if that somehow contributes. His hygiene is great, but infections love broken skin. Im going to have him talk to his dermatologist.
Just a heads up for you all when you get old, or have elderly female relatives: a UTI can cause psychosis. And without any of the burning and urgency symptoms. Don't ask me how I know, you'll get a novel.
Hell yes, my mum had a UTI a few years ago and I thought she had instant total dementia, it was so bad. Mercifully it responded quickly to antibiotics.
ETA she hasn’t touched a man since the 1970s.
Oh yikes! I feel like I remember a doctor telling us something about “agitation” being something to look out for with my grandmother, but I didn’t realize it could cause actual psychosis. That’s so scary
The psychosis is scary while it's happening but it goes away (or went away in our case) on treatment with antibiotics.
I have this problem as well.. I found out that when i take D-Mannose I can pretty much prevent it from happening. I usually take it daily during winter and on days I'm sexually active ( and the day after). It even works for me when UTI already started.. it took me a while to find something that works for me that isn't an antibiotic. I Thought I'd share :)
I don't know if you want any advice, but here it is :)
D-mannose is a simple sugar sold as a supplement that is prescribed widely in other countries for UTIs. If you get another UTI and hate abx, it may be a good alternative.

(Also, get your hubby checked out!!!).
I’ve taken it while pregnant (because I just get them CONSTANTLY during pregnancy) but I haven’t in a while because I though I was doing so well. Got to get back on it.
This is what I was gonna recommend. If I feel like I might be having one coming on I take a few doses and it stops it in it's track. Knock on wood, I haven't had a full-blown UTI in 10+ years.
