I just discovered these and I find them so soothing and almost hypnotic (in a good way). These were the songs women would sing as they worked the cloth. I love the images of women working as one highly attuned unit. I imagine there was a deep feeling of camaraderie.
Apparently Waulking songs were everywhere throughout Scotland for a long time, but mostly disappeared once industrialization took over the fabric world there in the 50's.
The song gets going at 30 seconds into the video
