Various articles referred to them as ‘girls’ or ‘ladies in space,’ and diligent writers made a point to include ages, heights and weights in their descriptions.”
We've come a long way from that. Today, they would be referred to as 'menstruators" or "vagina havers in space", and diligent writers would make a point to include their pronouns in their descriptions.
Now THAT! Is progress.
Decades later, some questions reporters asked them are shocking to read
Shocking only if you haven’t been paying attention or you think there’s no need for feminism any longer or you know absolutely nothing about recent history.
Wow, I did not know Ride was a lesbian (which I found out on Wikipedia just now, though of course it refers to her being not a lesbian but an “LGBT astronaut”). Along with Eleanor Roosevelt, Louisa May Alcott and Katherine Lee Bates (who wrote the lovely “America the Beautiful”), lesbian/bisexual woman history is so ignored in American “nationalist”/patriotic history.
Ugh I'm straight but I hate that. When a lesbian woman is attacked by a TIM or any man really, she's a "queer victim" or the attack is against a "a LGBTQQWERTZY" woman (what she's all of those??).
But if a TIM is "misgendered" it's never a queer crime or an LGBTQBLABLA crime, no then they specify it's a transphobic hate crime.
I wonder why that is....
And when a lesbian does something amazing like Sally Ride they are an “LGBT”!
interesting that their misogyny was so strong they let Russia get a 20 year head start.
