Lol no kushite leader defeated the Roman Empire or humbled Augustus. This is historical revisionism. What occured was an extremely limited border conflict conducted by limited forces within South Egypt by a regional governor. The fact that Rome didn't expand into Kush as a result of the conflict wasn't because of some mythical strategic defeat - it's a settled fact that Augustus halted all imperial expansions and treated the borders as settled.
The article even stated Augustus was gathering troops for Syria - not Kush. We should loudly proclaim the (actual) achievements of women in history, not make up facts.
I'm playing Starfield right now and she's an NPC in one of the quests. I had never heard of her before (yes, I'm embarassed), and now I'm reading up on her, so your link is appreciated!
This was a fantastic read. More suppressed history. Even Robert Graves, in his historical fiction masterwork I, Claudius and Claudius the God didn’t mention Augustus defeat by an African Queen. Congratulations to the Candace.
I remember Metatron saying about her in one of his videos about that TV show making Cleopatra black.
Every March, I write a fact about 31 different women on my office whiteboard for Women's History Month. She was one of them. There's quite a few women who led charges against Roman (or otherwise ancient) invaders.
I'd love to see your whiteboard! :D What other women fought against the Romans? The only one I know of (aside from Amanirenas from this article) is Boudicca.
Amazing!
