These are the kinds of women I looked up to as a kid. It felt like the 80s, at least at the start, tried to have more positive female role models as well as the idea that women could do any job. Makes me think of ‘Long Distance Clara’ the lorry driver from the ‘Pigeon St’ cartoon. That sort of capable and natural thing you don’t see in today’s stupidly sexualised cartoon stuff.
I've been listening to a lot of 80s music recently because it was better and I was watching a Madness video when it dawned on me how much better it looked, these are real looking people, Madness were not famous because they were picked by a record label for having the "right look" and made to fix their teeth and go on a diet, they were famous because they were good, talented and looks didn't matter.
I've been paying more attention to the music videos since then and it makes me feel so much better about myself I'm just normal and if I watch music videos or TV shows before the 2000 they are full of normal people too.
Beautiful.
