Huh. I clicked on this expecting some groundbreaking new information and ... Maria Sybilla Merian counts as "little-known"?

Here in Germany, she's quite well-known, at least to people interested in either feminism (I think I have heard the names of most "famous women" by now - there are so few that are deemed somewhat noteworthy in this patriarchal world) or, I imagine, insects. (Not as well known as the usual males, of course, but ... well, I knew her name and I am not that well-read.)

I wasn't aware she had named the Vogelspinne! That's so cool.

Maybe she's "little known" simply because she's not English 😉

On the plus side, it's an informative article, and it's good to see the spotlight on women's histories and achievements.

It’s certainly not how I would describe her… To me she’s definitely one of the better known naturalists.
